Fee Classes at Coconino Community College (CCC): Free classes at CCC this summer for high school seniors in Coconino County FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – High school seniors in Coconino County will be able to attend summer classes at Coconino Community College for free. Thanks to COVID relief funding from the federal government, county high school seniors will be able to get a head start on a college education this summer. “In keeping with our philosophy of ‘Students First,’ we are using as much of the federal funding as possible to help students get started in college right away,” said CCC President Dr. Colleen A. Smith. “There will also be funding to help students who have needed to take some time away from their college studies due to the many different impacts of the pandemic. Give us a call, or come see us so that you can gear up for summer and fall classes!” CCC Provost Dr. Nate Southerland said, “This year’s graduating class has really been impacted by COVID, and we want to help them launch their college career successfully. Whether they need to take some remedial classes to catch up on their Math and English skills or get a head start on the classes required for their major, we want our graduating seniors to know that we are here for them.” Furthermore, Southerland added that stimulus money will also be available to help with the cost of tuition to all students who continue to take classes into the fall 2021 semester. The college has more than $3 million in two rounds of funds from the federal government to assist students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds may be distributed to the students in the next year. The first round of funding, about $552,000 comes from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021. The next round of funding for students at CCC from the same act, called the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, is about $2.45 million. These funds will help new students make the transition to college, help current students continue their college journey, and help students who may have stopped attending college because of the pandemic to return in order to reskill and recover from the effects of the pandemic. For more information about CCC’s summer offerings, or to apply to CCC, visit www.coconino.edu/apply-now. About Coconino Community College CCC has served residents across 18,000 square miles of Coconino County since 1991. The College has the goal of improving the lives of our residents through workforce development and higher education. CCC provides affordable tuition and offers certificate programs and two-year associate degrees in academic and career fields. CCC also has programs that ease student transition to any of the three state universities, including the award-winning CCC2NAU. CCC reaches out to the more rural portions of the County and Tribal Lands. All Things E.Q (April 21-27) Do you have an excuse that gives you permission to fail? Nobody likes to fail, but we all do from time to time. Learning to see failure as a lesson we can learn from rather than an enemy allows us to grow from failure instead of fear it. However, there is a difference between failure when it happens naturally and allowing ourselves to fail because we were afraid to try. Excuses are not a healthy way to deal with our natural fear of failure. Excuses are attractive because they feel like protection for our ego, but excuses come at a cost. Creating excuses before we even begin convinces us that we are likely to fail. These excuses then reduce our drive to succeed, and we end up failing more often. "Ninety-nine percent of failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses.”-George Washington Carver It is well known that the more we practice something, the better we become. When we make excuses, we are essentially practicing failure. The moment we start thinking of excuses, we are already assuming we have failed. The more energy we give to thinking about our excuse, the more we believe we can and will fail. Do our excuses protect us, or do they prevent us from seeking success? While we can learn and grow from genuine failure, there is little to learn from a failure that occurred because we gave less than our best. By being aware of the damage excuses do, it is easier to stop ourselves when we notice we are pre-planning for failure by creating an excuse. Be brave enough to fail without any excuses and stubborn enough to try again. The world needs the best of you. Be good to yourself, Jackson Evans and Danna Evans All Things E.Q.
