All things EQ: Have you given this moment away, waiting for the next one? Many people live for the weekend, letting their weekdays pass them by unappreciated. However, it is in these ordinary days that we live the majority of our life. "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them."-Andy Bernard, The Office When we discover that one of the most valuable things in life is our imperfect, ordinary days, we have given ourselves a great gift. Research (from research psychologist and University of California professor of psychology Sonja Lyubomirsky) tells us that we can experience up to 40% more joy in our life with intentional activity. It turns out joy is more habit than happenstance. Make joy a habit in your life. 1. Accept imperfections. Rather than declare a day as good or bad, realize that every day is a mixture of both. It's easy to label a day as less than ideal, but each day includes upsides and downsides. Don't let the downsides block your view. There is more to appreciate if you are willing to look around. 2.Notice the details. There will likely be a time when you wish you could go back to appreciate the details you may be taking for granted now. Even an ordinary tree becomes extraordinary when we notice the details. 3.Create, don't wait. By doing what needs to be done each day, we feel satisfied with our effort and more confident in our future. Do not wait for a better tomorrow. Make tomorrow better by what you do today. "Every day may not be good…but there is something good in every day."-Unknown Be good to yourself. Enjoy the days of your life. Danna Evans All Things E.Q.
