All things E.Q. 10/28-11/1: My self-talk determines my experience. We are either empowered or defeated by the messages we tell ourselves. Which is why we encourage students to pay attention to their self-talk. If a student's self-talk is about how much they dislike Monday, that message will affect their experience every Monday. Thinking negatively about Monday doesn’t make Monday better. I will admit I did the same thing though; I spent years hating mornings. My motto was, "I am not a morning person." Choosing to be negative about mornings cost me countless mornings I won't get back. It's not like I made a conscious decision to be angry each morning; it had simply become a habit due to my repeated self-talk about how I wasn't a morning person. It took me three years to turn that around, but the difference it has made in my life has been worth it, and the improvements began by paying attention to my self-talk.
