CAMPUS GOAL

By May of 2018 we will decrease the total percentage of D/F’s in literacy and math school wide by 25% (from May of 2017 percentages) as evidenced by a score of four or better on the end of course level of achievement marks.

Fun Fact:  DVUSD scored higher on the AZMerit tests than the state average and charter schools.

Seniors, for Advisory Day this Thursday, you will report directly to the Auditorium for important graduation information.  Please be on time!

Late Start Day:  Attention Juniors:  This is just a reminder that on February 27^th you will be taking the ACT test here on campus.  Testing starts at 7:35 a.m. for Juniors.    School starts at 11:50 a.m. for all other students. 

Please Nominate a Teacher of the Year:  The DVEF Teacher of the Year Program is designed to celebrate and honor the contributions of DVUSD’s teachers – we want to celebrate and spotlight those exceptionally skilled and dedicated teachers who have gained the respect and admirations of students, parents, and co-workers and who have the superior ability to help students achieve.  Our District is blessed with many, many teachers who possess all these qualities.  Please honor these teachers by nominating them for Teacher of the Year.  Selected teachers are honored at an award ceremony and dinner at AZ Broadway Theatre on May 7^th and also receive a cash award.  Candidates must HAVE COMPLETED their 5^th year of teaching in the DVUSD to be considered.  Nominations are due by 4PM on February 8^th.  The nomination form is attached. Audrie & Daisy:  A Netflix Documentary

Join DVUSD, BGHS, and BLOOM365 for a movie night of awareness and facilitated dialogue on how to prevent sexual assault among high school teens.

Audrie and Daisy is about the life of two girls in two different towns who were sexually assaulted.  The movie takes a hard look at the issues faced by America's teenagers who are coming of age in the new world of social media bullying, spun wildly out of control. It is an intense but awesome movie.

There will be a guided conversation with Bloom 365 staff from 7:30-8:00 in two separate rooms for teenagers and parents.  Bring your friends.  This movie is only appropriate for teens and older.

FROM ATHLETICS

ATHLETIC CLEARANCE:  For anyone interested in trying out for a Spring Sport, please make sure your athletic clearance packets have been completed and turned in to the Athletic Office by Friday, February 2nd.

Girls Tennis will have their first practice on Wednesday February 7th after school in the tennis courts. Come join Girls Tennis!   Please contact Coach Flores in the weight room or health classroom 626 if you have any questions.

Hype Squad shirts are now available in the bookstore for $10 before school, after school or during your lunch.  Wear your Hype Squad shirt and bring your school ID to any home game and your entry fee will be only $1.  We now have large sized shirts available!

FROM COUNSELING

BGHS offers peer tutoring for all subjects in the media center after school from 2:17-3:15. Tutoring days will vary week by week so check the printed calendar on the library doors to see what days tutoring is offered.

VALENTINE'S VINTAGE CAR SHOW:  February 9, 2018 * 6-8 PM ~ Celebrate with your sweetheart at The Shops at Norterra's annual Valentine's Vintage Car Show!  Activities include a cars show and hot air balloon glow on Main Street, live music, kids crafts and face painting, plus free food samples, giveaways, prizes and more!  Bring this flyer to the event to earn 500 bonus points for BGHS ~ remember to put BGHS on the flyer!  If you don’t have a flyer, just sign in at the Red Tent!  Hope to see you there!

STUDENT INFORMATION

Dress Code:   Any attire that detracts from the learning environment is not acceptable.  Shirts and tops may not expose bare midriffs, bare shoulders, nor be deeply cut in the front, back or under the arms.  Undergarments should not be exposed.  Clothing must cover the entire buttocks.  Clothing may not include defamatory writing obscene language or include symbols of drugs, sex, or alcohol.  You can see the complete dress code policy in the Student’s Rights and Responsibilities Handbook on our website.  Please dress for success while at school!

Parking Permits

The cost for student parking on campus has been reduced to $50 for 2^nd Semester. Students who wish to park on campus may purchase a parking permit in the bookstore during their lunch period or before or after school. Students who have not purchased a permit will not be allowed to park their vehicle on the BGHS campus.

FROM THE CAFETERIA: 

The cafeteria will implement the district policy on unpaid meal charges.

If you owe two or more meals on your lunch account you will be given an alternate meal of a turkey and cheese sandwich. You will be charged $3.00 for this meal. You will continue to receive the alternate meal until your account is brought current.  Please bring your lunch account balance current to ensure you receive the meal of your choice.

Students must reapply for the free/reduced meal program every school year.   Submit paper applications to the cafeteria or on line applications at ezmealapp.com.  Please allow 10 days for processing.

Senior students, please remember to reapply for your Free and Reduced lunch program for the 2017/2018 school year even if you have a shortened schedule. Qualifying for the Free and Reduced lunch program may also help you with testing fees and the athletic waiver.  

DELIVERIES:  The front desk will not accept personal items such as IPads, cell phones, money or lunches. There are also no deliveries allowed for students such as balloons, flowers, food or gifts of any kind.

Parking

Students, please be a good neighbor and do not park in the Medical Plaza or neighboring business parking lots.  Your car will be towed!  You can purchase a pass for the student parking lot in the Bookstore.
