CAMPUS GOAL

By May of 2018 we will decrease the total percentage of D/F’s in literacy and math school wide by 25% (from May of 2017 percentages) as evidenced by a score of four or better on the end of course level of achievement marks.

 

Fun Fact:  DVUSD scored higher on the AZMerit tests than the state average and charter schools.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS TO THE BULLDOG BARK

Students interested in applying for a West-Mec or CTE Signature program need to turn in their completed applications to their counselors by this Thursday, Jan 18th. If you are applying to a West-Mec program, you also need to turn in a travel permission form. Stop by the counseling office if you have any questions.

Congrats to the cast of this year's Spring Musical, The Addams Family! We know you'll be working very hard over the next 9 weeks! We can't wait to see the performance! The Addams Family will run March 14th-17th! It'll be a "creepy and kooky" show!

The blood drive is Next Wednesday, less than a week away! Get your donor slips in ASAP! If you turn your donor form into Mrs. Endresen, Room 428, by Friday, you will be entered into a drawing to possibly win a Got Blood Goldwater Hero Shirt. Must be at least 16 years of age and meet the weight requirements. Make sure you bring your ID, drink lots of water and eat a good breakfast!

Please Nominate a Teacher of the Year:  The DVEF Teacher of the Year Program is designed to celebrate and honor the contributions of DVUSD’s teachers – we want to celebrate and spotlight those exceptionally skilled and dedicated teachers who have gained the respect and admirations of students, parents, and co-workers and who have the superior ability to help students achieve.  Our District is blessed with many, many teachers who possess all these qualities.  Please honor these teachers by nominating them for Teacher of the Year.  Selected teachers are honored at an award ceremony and dinner at AZ Broadway Theatre on May 7th and also receive a cash award.  Candidates must HAVE COMPLETED their 5th year of teaching in the DVUSD to be considered.  Nominations are due by 4PM on February 8th.  The nomination form is attached. FROM THE CAFETERIA

The cafeteria will implement the district policy on unpaid meal charges.

If you owe two or more meals on your lunch account you will be given an alternate meal of a turkey and cheese sandwich. You will be charged $3.00 for this meal. You will continue to receive the alternate meal until your account is brought current.  Please bring your lunch account balance current to ensure you receive the meal of your choice.

 

BLOOD DRIVE

We have a Blood Drive coming up on January 24th!  Please see Mrs. Endresen in Room 428 to get your donor slip!  You must be at least 16 years of age and meet the weight requirements.  Save 3 lives – sign up to donate today!

 

SAT PREP CLASS

Starting on Thursday January 18th, Mrs. Hillam will be teaching an SAT prep class in room 107.  It will run for six weeks and will be held from 4 until 6 pm. We will be using the Princeton Review curriculum and it is FREE to our BGHS students. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Hillam and discuss materials needed and any questions you might have. We hope all the students taking the February SAT will attend and sharpen up their skills.

 

FROM ATHLETICS

Bulldogs Baseball season is coming up soon! Preseason Camp will be held from January 16th until February 1st, and tryouts start on February 5th. Camp registration forms are available in the PRIDE office.

 

Hype Squad shirts are now available in the bookstore for $10 before school, after school or during your lunch.  Wear your Hype Squad shirt and bring your school ID to any home game and your entry fee will be only $1.  We now have large sized shirts available!

 

FROM COUNSELING

BGHS offers peer tutoring for all subjects in the media center after school from 2:17-3:15. Tutoring days will vary week by week so check the printed calendar on the library doors to see what days tutoring is offered.

CLUBS

New Year - New Tech, recycle your old electronics by bringing them into the dog shack and putting them into the box. The Eco Friendly Club is helping recycle old electronics so such as computers, phones, cameras, tablets and any electronics you can think of. If they are laying around and collecting dust, bring them in to the dog shack.

Earn Triple Points in January & February

STUDENT INFORMATION

Dress Code:   Any attire that detracts from the learning environment is not acceptable.  Shirts and tops may not expose bare midriffs, bare shoulders, nor be deeply cut in the front, back or under the arms.  Undergarments should not be exposed.  Clothing must cover the entire buttocks.  Clothing may not include defamatory writing obscene language or include symbols of drugs, sex, or alcohol.  You can see the complete dress code policy in the Student’s Rights and Responsibilities Handbook on our website.  Please dress for success while at school!

 

Parking Permits

The cost for student parking on campus has been reduced to $50 for 2nd Semester. Students who wish to park on campus may purchase a parking permit in the bookstore during their lunch period or before or after school. Students who have not purchased a permit will not be allowed to park their vehicle on the BGHS campus.

 

FROM THE CAFETERIA:  Students must reapply for the free/reduced meal program every school year.   Submit paper applications to the cafeteria or on line applications at ezmealapp.com.  Please allow 10 days for processing.

 

Senior students, please remember to reapply for your Free and Reduced lunch program for the 2017/2018 school year even if you have a shortened schedule. Qualifying for the Free and Reduced lunch program may also help you with testing fees and the athletic waiver.  

 

DELIVERIES:  The front desk will not accept personal items such as IPads, cell phones, money or lunches. There are also no deliveries allowed for students such as balloons, flowers, food or gifts of any kind.

 

Parking

Students, please be a good neighbor and do not park in the Medical Plaza or neighboring business parking lots.  Your car will be towed!  You can purchase a pass for the student parking lot in the Bookstore.
