Attention Dual Enrollment Students: We will be proctoring the Reading, Math and Write Placer Accuplacer tests here on campus April 24th & 25th. This week, students who have enrolled in a Dual class for next year will receive a letter explaining the registration and testing process. On April 24th and 25th, passes will be sent to students in their Language Arts class to test. In order to test, you must have enrolled as a Rio Salado student, have your 8-digit student ID#, and a valid picture ID. If not, you will not be permitted to test and will have to take the test at the college this summer. Please see Mrs. Tyrrell in the Counseling Department if you have any questions.
SENIOR CORDS ATTENTION SENIORS: Congratulations to the senior students who qualify for our Renaissance Recognition Program! These cords are to be kept and worn at your graduation ceremony. Seniors that earn cords should receive a total of 7 by their senior year if their grades and GPA is as follows. · * Gold Cords: All A’s and Honor B’s · * Silver Cords: All A's and Honor B's and Honor C's with a 4.0+ GPA · * Black Cords: All A's, B's, and Honor C's with a 3.5-3.9 GPA · * White Cords: All A's, B's, and Honor C's with a 3.0-3.4 GPA Please come and see Ms. Braidy to pick up your cords starting February 7th.
Annual Senior Awards Ceremony: Seniors! Save the Date! Our Annual Senior Awards Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 15th at 7 pm in the performing arts center. Please turn in your scholarships/awards notices to the counseling office before April 28th.

West-Mec Programs: Seniors! Don't have a plan for after graduation? The following Careers have high opportunity and high demand in the workforce: General Construction, Air Conditioning Technician, Energy and Industrial Technology, Avionic/Electronics, Electrical Trade Specialty and Plumbing Trade Specialty. These West Mec Certification Programs are now open to current seniors to apply for the 17-18 school at a nominal cost. Come to counseling for more information today!!

The Virginia and David McElyea Scholarship for Educational Excellence: In 2011, Dr. Virginia McElyea, long-time education leader and former Deer Valley Unified School District Superintendent, created The Virginia and David McElyea Scholarship for Educational Excellence as a tribute to her late husband David. Since its inception, this scholarship has provided over $10,000 to assist Deer Valley students in fulfilling their dreams to pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math. Sadly, Dr. Virginia McElyea recently passed away on March 25th. Per her family's request and in honor of Dr. McElyea's lifelong passion for education, her family has decided to continue her legacy. In lieu of flowers, they asked for contributions to her scholarship fund. Thanks to her friends and family, we are able to continue offering The Virginia and David McElyea Scholarship for Educational Excellence for at least the next 2 years. The Deer Valley Education Foundation is honored to announce The Virginia and David McElyea Scholarship for Educational Excellence! The application is attached. This $2,000 one time scholarship is offered exclusively to students who will be attending a four year college/university and pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math. To qualify to apply for this award, students must be a high school senior in DVUSD. Amount of scholarship: $2,000 Applications must be received at the DVEF office (located in the District office) no later than 4PM, May 2nd, 2017 Applications will be considered based on the following criteria: •Student must be enrolled in an accredited 4-year college/university in the fall 2017 and pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math. •Demonstrated academic excellence •Extra-curricular high school and community activities •Personal essay •Two letters of recommendation Applications must be returned to your school counselor PRIOR to the deadline date of May 2nd. Counselor needs to review, sign, and submit application to the DVEF office. Scholarship deadline is 4PM, May 2nd, 2017 Applications are in the counseling office.

Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program: Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants are pleased to be able to continue with our scholarship program for the 10th year. Joaquin Bustoz Math-Science Honors Program @ ASU: Arizona State University is now accepting applications for the Joaquin Bustoz Math-Science Honors Program that will run this summer during May and June. The JBMSHP is an intensive residential academic program that provides motivated students an excellent opportunity to begin university level mathematical science studies before graduating high school. Come to Counseling for an application!
Congratulations "Educators Rising": Last week the BCHS Educators Rising chapter competed at the AZ State Leadership Competition. Of the six students that participated, four placed in their event with three of them receiving scholarships to GCU and NAU. These ladies worked extremely hard in their competitions and I couldn't be more proud of them!! Please congratulate: Hailey Binns- First Place for Educators Rising Moment Ella Stephens- First Place for Pre-K to Kindergarten Children's Book Lexa Ingram- First Place for E-Portfolio Bella Corona- Second Place for E-Portfolio Tatum Smith and Haley Meyer also worked extremely hard competing against many students across the state.

Anthem Youth Advisory Council: The Anthem Youth Advisory Council is now accepting applications for new representatives! Learn how local government works, raise awareness about the ACC, its mission and proposals, and share ideas about youth issues, needs and community enhancements. Come to an informational session on Wednesday, April 19th from 5-6 pm in the Anthem Civic Building Community Room. Applications are due by Friday May 5th and can be found in the Counseling Office.
Glassman Cup Award: Congratulations to Mikaela Mayhew for winning the Glassman Cup Award and raising the most funds for Students Supporting Brian Tumor Research.

Lunch accounts: Students: Please make sure you are listening to the cashier when they are giving you your balance. There is no negative balance allowed on the accounts. Online payments are not posted immediately. If you make a last minute payment and it has not posted you will not have access to the money. Please make online payments at least 30 minutes in advance to make sure the money is on your account.
DV Online Learning Program Students ONLY Attendance is required for all students that did not pay for their online class. Attendance is all time spent working, reading and participating in your class. This log verifies to the State of Arizona your attendance in an online course. The attendance log must be submitted each week. The expectation is that you work eight hours per week per course. Thank you for taking online courses with the DV Online Learning Program.
