Attention-2017-18 Seniors and Juniors

2017-2018 Parking Applications are going to be available on the SDOHS website homepage beginning Wednesday, April 5th.  Future Seniors only are given the opportunity to turn in Parking Applications until April 13th.  After that, all 2017-18 Seniors and Juniors will be able to submit parking applications until May 24th, the last day of school.

Reminder for all staff and students-There are no drinks other than water allowed in classrooms or the Library at any time.

Students please be aware of the city of Phoenix's parking policies for our surrounding community neighborhoods. We have been notified by Safeway Shopping Center Management, as well as Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office that O’Connor students parking in the business parking spaces can and will be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.

Also REMINDER  there is NO PARKING allowed on the north curb of Hackamore in the student loading zone. All violators will be ticketed without warning sticker.

Please obey all posted signage.

Not obeying posted signage will result in your car being ticketed or towed at your expense.

If your car is towed see someone in security or conduct.

Students riding bicycles and skateboards on campus will need to use the sidewalks in a responsible manner, and not ride on the driveway entering the campus.  It is a safety issue with vehicle traffic.

Reminder: Students and Parents

The front desk will not accept personal items such as IPads, cell phones, money or lunches. There are also no deliveries allowed for students such as balloons, flowers, food or gifts of any kind.

Who can make an Individual Tax Credit to Public Schools?

The Arizona tax credit program (A.R.S. 43-1089.01) allows a tax credit of up to $200 for individuals and up to $400 for married couples, filing jointly, in support of extracurricular activities.

When do payments have to be received to be eligible for the 2016 Tax Year?

Payments received from January 1, 2016, to April 15, 2017, are eligible to be claimed as an Individual Extracurricular Activity Tax Credit. We will date receipts for payments postmarked December 31, 2016, with a December 31, 2016 receipt date. Individual Extracurricular Activity Tax Credit donations made between January 1, 2017, and April 15, 2017, can be applied to a taxpayer's 2016 or 2017 tax obligation. Any decisions regarding which year to apply a credit toward are the responsibility of the taxpayer and can be made in conjunction with their tax preparer.

COUNSELING

COLLEGE FINANCIAL PLANNING

Every fall for the last 10+ years, Campus Advisers has presented to the parents of college bound students in the DVUSD. We host free workshops called “College Costs 9-1-1: Get Real or Go Broke!” that explains the entire process in a very simple manner in about one hour. All parents leave the workshop with helpful information to do things on their own to save time & money. However, many take advantage of a free, post-workshop evaluation. This gives parents an exact idea of what their inevitable out-of-pocket college costs and financial aid package will look like based on their present and projected income/assets. We also alert parents to the exact total costs (not just tuition) to expect at various price-tiered universities. We do this evaluation (for free) for all college-bound students in a family so they can budget accordingly. We will continue to present these free workshops in the Fall.

In coordination with the DVUSD Community Education Department, we have created a more in-depth college planning discussion. This is a 3-part series for parents with college-bound students. The cost will be $97 for the family. Because the discussion is primarily focused on the family’s financial dynamics, the student is welcome to attend with mom &/or dad or grand-parent/guardian. The earlier a family understands how their financial dynamics can influence their student’s college options, the better guidance they will be able to give their college bound student. A bit too late for high school seniors, but this will be useful for families with juniors, sophomores, and even freshman.

“Say Something”

There is a collective benefit of reporting or informing adults about any potential unsafe activity so that students get to attend the kind of school they want to attend, a school where the climate is friendly, warm, respectful and supportive.  Individually and collectively, we can play an essential role in helping to maintain safety and can make a dramatic difference in preserving such a climate at Sandra Day O'Connor High School.  With a hotline in place, information can be reported anonymously by students, parents, or community members without fear or reprisal.  If you see something, say something by telling a staff member or dial 623-445-7137.
