WEST WING SCHOOL NEWS!!

MAY 2^ND – 6^TH: TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK:  We know how dedicated our teachers are but sometimes we forget to show or tell them how much we appreciate their efforts.   Let’s acknowledge our teacher’s this week in various ways.   A note or card, a gift certificate, bringing them their favorite drink or lunch perhaps?   If you are unsure what they like our front office has a book which contains each teacher’s favorite color, drink, food etc.  

7^th & 8^th GRADE FIELD DAY:  Friday, May 6^th.  Be sure to wear sunscreen and bring lots of water.  

EARLY RELEASE:   Friday, May 6^th all grades will be release at 12:05pm

PTSA WEBMASTER NEEDED:  Are you computer savvy?  PTSA is looking for someone to help with the PTSA website.   Contact them at executiveboard@westwingptsa.com if you are interested.  Training will be provided.   

SPECIFIC BOOK DONATIONS NEEDED:    The kindergarten through 8th grade teachers are currently learning a new writing curriculum called Lucy Calkins. This curriculum includes using several books to help students improve their writing skills. These books are used as examples to demonstrate a teaching point.  We are asking for your donation to help purchase these books, which will be kept in a special "teacher's only" section of our library and used during writing instruction by ALL teachers in the school.  Please consider purchasing some of the titles shown.  You can find low priced copies on AMAZON!  Your family's name will be on the donation sticker inside the book(s)!   Attached is the Google Doc link to view what is needed.   While in the Google Doc you have the capability to modify the information as it is filled to ensure the list is kept current.  Please contact shari.mills-zumstein@dvusd.org if you need help or have questions about the list or how to work in Google Docs.    Google Doc Book List:   https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qh74piaXLp2Qn66S8GFGaaZUzDyR5F1I6m3wA21I-2w/edit?usp=sharing

ART SHOW / BAND & CHOIR CONCERT:  Wednesday, May 11^th West Wing will be hopping!!! 

West Wing will host its first school wide ART SHOW!!    It will coincide with our choir and band performances as well.

PTSA GENERAL MEETING:   Friday, May 13^th at 9:00am at the Community Center

8^th GRADE DANCE:  8^th Graders save the date!   The 8^th grade promotion dance will be held on Friday, May 13^th.   Watch for more details to come.  

KINDERGARTEN PERFORMANCE:   Friday, May 20^th at 9:30 am in the MPR.

FINAL HONOR’S ASSEMBLY:  Tuesday, May 24^th in the MPR.

9:00 am    1^st & 2^nd grade

9:20 am    3^rd & 4^th grade

10:00am   5^th & 6^th grade

2:30 pm    7^th & 8^th grade

8^th GRADE PROMOTION PACKETS:  All 8^th graders were sent home with packets which explain the promotion procedure and other various needs.   The front office has some extra packets if you do not have one.  A couple of deadlines are:     

- Baby pictures for the slide show are needed BY APRIL 29^TH!!

-Field Trip forms are needed BY APRIL 29^TH!!

8^th GRADE ONLY EARLY RELEASE:   Wednesday, May 25^th all 8^th graders will be release at 12:05pm

8^th GRADE PROMOTION:  Wednesday, May 25^th at 6:30pm at Sandra Day O’Conner High School’s main gym.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL:  Thursday, May 26^th all students will be release at 12:05pm

PARENTS:    It is important your child’s lunch accounts and library accounts are current and remain current for the balance of the school year.    8^th grade students will not walk with their classmates at graduation if they do not have their accounts clear.    You can contact the cafeteria at Luanne.kelley@dvusd.org and our library at shari.mills-zumstein@dvusd.org if you have any questions about your child’s account.  

**If your child feels they have turned in their library book but continues to receive overdue notices please have them see Mrs. Zumstein and she will double check the library shelves.

This policy was developed using a model policy from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and was modified by the DVUSD Wellness Policy Committee. Now we want input from YOU to make the policy the best it can be!

7^th & 8^th GRADES EXTRA LUNCH CHOICES:   On Thursdays our middle school students have an additional choice.  They are:

May 12^th: Chicken patty sandwich

May 19^th:  Teriyaki beef bites
