WEST WING SCHOOL NEWS!!
PTSA MEETING: Friday, February 19th @ 9:00am at the Community Center. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come and hear what our PTSA has planned for your kids.
SPRING BOOK FAIR: Monday, February 22nd – Friday, February 26th in our library.
Monday – Wednesday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
Thursday: 8:30am – 7:00pm
Friday: 8:30am – 1:00pm
HELPING BUILD CLASSROOM LIBRARIES: During our book fairs we try to help our teachers build their classroom libraries. There are two different ways you can help:
Your child’s teacher will choose books and put them in their designated bucket for you to pick out and purchase for them while you are at the fairOR
Donating any dollar amount in their name. At the end of the week they will come and choose books for their classroom.This method of donation is done through Scholastic’s “All for Books” program and Scholastic will donate one book to an underprivileged kid for every dollar spent!!The teacher’s will be given the donation slips so they can thank your child for their new book.
LITERACY NIGHT: Thursday, February 25th 5:00pm – 6:30pm in our MPR room. Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! We’ll have a photo booth, book exchange, crafts and lots of fun to encourage reading! BOOK SWAP: Bring in any gently used books from home to Mrs. Riccitelli in room 242 and receive a ticket for each book. On Literacy Night be sure to bring your tickets with you and you will be able to pick out a book for every ticket you have to take home and read!
SHOWCASE FOR LEARNING NIGHT: West Wing School is excited to open our campus for our annual Showcase of Learning and Literacy Night on February 25th. This event is an opportunity for you to invite your friends and neighbors to visit our amazing school! Every classroom will be open and you are welcome to stop in and see the exciting learning activities that are taking place throughout our campus. Please check the times below for specific event details:
Kinder – 3rd Grade: 5:00pm – 5:45pm
4th – 8th Grades: 5:45pm – 6:30pm
KINDER SNEAK PEEK NIGHT: If you have a kinder or you know of a friend or neighbor who will have a kinder starting next school year this is a great time to bring them to meet our kinder teachers and see what West Wing has planned for those students. You can also have them registered for next year!!! This will take place in our kinder classrooms starting at 5:00pm – 5:45pm.
CLOTHING DONATION DRIVE: Our Student Council is holding a Big Brother’s Big Sister’s clothing drive on Thursday, February 25th from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. They are looking for clothes, shoes, furniture and bedding. You know the rule: If you haven’t worn it in a year chances are you’re not going to!!
FOOD TRUCKS: Food trucks will be on site during all the fun Thursday, February 25th!!

DADDY/DAUGHTER DANCE: Friday, February 26th from 6:00pm – 8:30pm in our MPR room. Western theme: Cowboys and Angels!!! Girls dress up as angels or cowgirls and dads put on your best cowboy gear! Tickets are being sold NOW on the PTSA website. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Please turn in order form with payment or purchase tickets online by February 17th. HARKIN’S MOVIE TICKETS: Our PTSA is selling Harkin’s Summer Movie Tickets! See 10 movies for only $7!!! That’s $.70 a ticket! Whoa!!! Visit: http://westwing.my-pta.org/content.asp?PageID=15 to purchase your tickets today!! The deadline is Friday, March 4th.
DONATIONS: PLEASE HELP!! We are looking for donations of Leap Pad Readers, books, and cartridges and/or Franklin Spell Checks for our younger students to use for reading, phonics and number fluency the classroom.
If you have any used or new Leap Pad Readers or Franklin Spell Checks you are willing to donate, please send them in. Thank you for your continued support!
BATTLE OF THE BOOKS: Our next competition is Monday, March 14th at 2:30 pm in the library. ALL teams will be in the library competing against each other! If you would like to attend the competition please RSVP to shari.mills-zumstein@dvusd.org asap. Thank you.

PLEASE NOMINATE A FIRST YEAR TEACHER FOR DVEF'S 2015-2016 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR!!

The Deer Valley Education Foundation's Rookie of the Year Program is designed to celebrate, honor, and encourage Deer Valley School District's first year teachers.
We want to celebrate and spotlight these talented and dedicated first year teachers who have gained the respect of peers and who demonstrate teamwork, creativity, pro-activeness, involvement in campus or district activities/programs, professionalism, pride in school and profession, and above all have a positive impact on students.
Please honor these first year teachers by nominating them for Rookie of the Year! The candidate must be in his/her first year of teaching. The nomination form (ATTACHED) is due in the Deer Valley Education Foundation office at District Office by 5:00 pm on February 19th, 2016. The form will also be posted on the DVEF web site at www.dvef.org.
The Rookie who is selected as the DVEF Rookie of the Year receives a cash award and is honored at an award ceremony and dinner at Arizona Broadway Theatre on May 9th, 2016
