GENERAL INFORMATION

 

Reminder for all staff and students-There are no drinks other than water allowed in classrooms or the Library at any time.

 

Students still in need of an ID can get one at the Bookstore before and after school or at lunchtime.

 

 

Students please be aware of the city of Phoenix's parking policies for our surrounding community neighborhoods.

 

Also REMINDER  there is NO PARKING allowed on the north curb of Hackamore in the student loading zone. All violators will be ticketed without warning sticker.

 

Please obey all posted signage.

 

Not obeying posted signage will result in your car being ticketed or towed at your expense.

 

If your car is towed see someone in security or conduct.

 

Students riding bicycles and skateboards on campus will need to use the sidewalks in a responsible manner, and not ride on the driveway entering the campus.  It is a safety issue with vehicle traffic .

 

 

Reminder: Students and Parents

The front desk will not accept personal items such as IPads, cell phones, money or lunches. There are also no deliveries allowed for students such as balloons, flowers, food or gifts of any kind.

Do you have a teacher that has influenced your life?  Barnes & Noble is having a "My Favorite Teacher Contest" and looking for nominations.  Please take the time to nominate that teacher that has impacted your high school experience. 

It is very simple to enter:

Write an essay poem, or thank you letter explaining how a teacher has influenced your life and why you appreciate and admire them.

Entries should be 500 words or fewer, in English and typed on 8 1/2 X 11 paper

Students

During MTSS time on Thursdays (After 2nd hour), there will be a presentation in the auditorium for students that are not utilizing MTSS time for academics.  These sessions will provide information that students can use to benefit the social and emotional aspect of their lives.  Scan the QR code to sign up for the presentation. IMMUNIZATIONS:

If you want a copy of your immunizations, please email Nurse Debbie at debbie.rodrigues@dvusd.org. Please allow 48 hours and bring a photo ID with you to pick them up.

 

Health Reminder: DO NOT come to school if you have a fever over 100.0 degrees or if you are vomiting or having diarrhea. You need to stay home for 24 hours.

Have you had lunch at the OC Cafe yet?  Come on and try --We offer a variety of food..... from, pizza, chicken sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, popcorn chicken, salads, wraps, to  mexican and asian food.  With our meals starting at $3.00, it's a great deal.  All meals include, entree', side and juice, milk and a cup.  Come in today, we have some fun OC lunch ladies ready to serve your nutritional needs.

OC Track & Field

There will be an informational meeting at 2:45 pm Thursday 2/4 at the track.OC Track & Field practice starts Monday Feb 8th at 2:45 pm at the track. If you have not been in another sport this year be sure to have your athletic paperwork turned in to the office this week. If you don’t have your paperwork in this week you will not be able to participate.

 

Boys Tennis

The boys tennis team will start tryouts on Monday February 8th at 2:30 on the Tennis Courts. Please see Sue Perrault to turn in all paperwork to join the team. If you have any questions see coach Younger in PA 214 before school or after school on the courts.

 

 

Girls Tennis

***MUST HAVE PHYSICAL AND ATHLETIC PAPER WORK TURNED IN!!!

TRYOUTS begin Monday Feb 8th 2:30-5:00 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

and from 11:15-2:30 on 1/2 days- Thursday and Friday.

 *** Final team will be posted on Friday February 12th.

Attention All Students Interested in Trying Out For Football:

Our after school lifting program has begun. Our workouts are every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday immediately after school. If you are not involved in a winter sport at O'Connor, You are expected to be there. See Coach Rodriguez for details.

Clubs

 

Academic Decathlon

Academic Decathlon had regional competition this past weekend in various locations throughout the state. Our O'Connor team did very well;  They will be advancing to state competition on March 11th-12th at Red Mountain High School!

Three of our team members won medals in the Region II Competition. Please join us in congratulating the following students:

1. Colton Flowers won the gold medal in Science in the Honors Division; he was also the highest scorer in Science in the Region II Competition.
2. Colton Flowers won the bronze medal in Economics in the Honors Division.
3. Gage Driscoll and Aaron Nash tied for the bronze medal in Math in the Scholastic Division.
4. Cooper Bertke was the highest scorer for our team; he earned 6,497.1 points (all ten events are worth 1,000 pts. each).
5. Aaron Nash was the highest scorer in the Scholastic Division, earning 5,633.6 points.
6. Skyler Dorn was the highest scorer in the Varsity Division, earning 5,547.1 points.
5. Our team also placed 4th in the Super Quiz Relay event.

6. We won the 2016 Most Improved Region II Trophy, earning 11,689 more points than we earned in last year's Region II Competition.

 

NHS

National Honor Society is now accepting applications for membership from sophomores and juniors (freshmen are NOT eligible) who currently have a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.75 or above.  The application packet is available on the NHS web page. (Follow the links - O'Connor/Get Involved/Club/NHS) All applications are due to Mrs. Cunningham (Room 509) or Mrs. Knoll (Room 616) by Friday, February 26, 2016.

 

Interact

Please help Interact support Crutches for Africa by bringing your crutches, Wheel chairs, walkers and other assistive devices to room 519.  Donations will be accepted until February 15th in order to have enough time to deliver the donation. 

 

O.C Mingle

Find your O. C.  Match using the QR code on the pink flyer. Matches can be purchased February 10-12 in front of the cafeteria. 

Last day to take the O'C mingle survey is Tuesday 2/9 at 2:30.  Purchase your matches 2/10 during both lunches and before and afterschool 2/11 and 2/12 in room 519. 

 

 

Poetry and Creative Writing Club

Interested in slam poetry, creative writing, or writing workshops? Meetings are every Monday at 2:30 in Ms. Almeida's room (526). You don't need to be a writer to join. Club meetings will consist of watching and discussing poems, sharing writing, and future guest speakers. E-mail Ms. Almeida at alex.almeida@dvusd.org for more information.

Don't miss the opportunity to apply for the Jack Dillard's Soaring Eagles Scholarship.  You must have qualifying criteria.  Please visit the Counseling Department website.

The scholarship will be awarded to a  Sandra Day O’Connor High School senior whose life has exemplified the ideals of Mr. Dillard.  Mr. Dillard was passionate about providing additional support and recognition for students who have risen above their life’s difficulties and attained remarkable personal and academic success.  Selection will be based on service to the community, academic achievement, personal challenges, and an essay.

AP Examination Payment

All students taking  AP Examinations in May, need to make payment at the bookstore before March 18th, 2016.  The cost of each exam is $92.00

PSAT

PSAT test takers should already have access to their electronic score reports. Students will receive paper score reports in their History classes Feb. 11th-12th.

    Transcripts

    Students that request copies of transcripts for pick up need to allow either Mrs. Mockler or Ms.Youngblood 24 to 48 hours to process their request. If you have requested paperwork for insurance, Social Security, full time student letters or any other forms to be filled out we also ask for a 24 to 48 hour processing period. Students are responsible for coming back to pick up their paperwork before school, after school or at lunches. A pass will not be sent out.
