WEST WING SCHOOL NEWS!!

 

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO PARENTS:  It is being reported that the cars exiting the top parking lot are coming out too fast.  Parents we urge you to please slow down when existing the top parking lot during pick up times.  There are many students crossing at the same point cars are exiting the parking lot.  Please slow down for our students safety!

 

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS:   WOW!!  We have 16 teams right now!!    It’s not too late to join.   Have your child turn in their parent permission form by this Friday, August 28th and if they don’t have a team to be a part of we will try our very best to put them with another student or two.   Students interested should pick up an application from the library OR visit the library website (Staff Websites / Library Media Center/Battle of the Books) and you can print the necessary forms from there!   If you have questions please contact:  shari.mills-zumstein@dvusd.org.     

 

KINDER READINESS WORKSHOP STARTING AUGUST 19TH:   West Wing will be hosting a three class Kinder-Readiness Workshop on our campus. This is a free workshop presented by DVFRC.  The workshop dates will be Aug 19th, 26th and Sept. 2nd from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on our campus.  The workshop is an adult/child, interactive 3 - part workshop series for parents or caregivers with children ages three to five years old.  Families of West Wing will receive first priority to register before the public fills the class.

 

STUDENT COUNCIL:  Attention enthusiastic 6TH, 7TH & 8TH graders with a positive attitude!!!!!   Are you interested in joining student council – THE largest student club at WW?

If so, you can pick up a packet from:

6th graders should pick up a packet in front of room #301

7th & 8th graders should pick up a packet from Mrs. Schubert @ lunch time.

All packets are due back by September 1st.   

 

COMING IN FROM OUR PTSA:  For our sponsors we have some great news, the Boosterthon t-shirt date has been extended and we still have a few spots open.  We would love to fill all the spots and have prices ranging from $250 - $750.  If you or anyone you know would be interested in supporting this event please have them call Michelle McCaughey at 602-791-2102 or you can respond to this email.  You can click here for the PTSA Website and find the t-shirt layout there.

 

***Sign up your whole family as PTSA members and be entered into a raffle for 4 Cardinals tickets.  We will be selecting the winner at our first PTSA meeting on August 27th.  Watch for the membership forms to come home this week.

 

 

PTSA GENERAL MEETING: Our first general meeting will be at 6:30pm on Thursday, August 27th in the MPR room.   Please plan to attend to hear all the wonderful plans we have for the school year.   The Cardinal tickets will be raffled off during this meeting for those who signed up their whole family as PTSA members!!

 

CAFETERIA  ****There will be a price increase for lunches in the 2015-16 school year.    Breakfast prices remain the same.

Elementary Lunch - $2.60

Adults - $3.50 (includes drink)

 

We are open for breakfast at 8:15-8:45 a.m.

Wednesday, September 2nd: Beef soft tacos

Thursday, September 3rd: cheese ravioli

Friday, September 4th:  BBQ sandwich

 

 

Please follow these guides lines for student drop off/pick-up and walkers.

  • Walkers:  gates don't open till 8:30am.
  • Students buying Breakfast:  Front gate by the MPR is open at 8:15 allowing access.  Breakfast is only $1.25, which is a good option if they don't have time to eat at home.
  • Students being dropped off/picked-up
    • Drop off:  Gates open at 8:15am allowing parents to pull in and drop off breakfast students.  All other students are not allowed  on campus till 8:30 when supervision starts. 
    • Pick up:  Gate opens at 3:15pm. There is no parking/waiting anywhere along High Desert Dr. before these gates open.  Consider coming 5 minutes after the bell rings when traffic congestion is lower.

Please be considerate and follow all directions of the crossing guards.  They are out there trying to keep all our students safe and we want them to be safe as well.
