WEST WING SCHOOL NEWS!!

CHORUS CONCERT:  Wednesday AND Thursday, April 29^th & 30^th at 6:30pm Mrs. Ortiz and Miss Decker will be putting on a choir production showcasing songs from all the popular musicals!   Bring your friends and family to hear our wonder chorus perform.

KINDERGARTEN SNEEK PEEK:  Wednesday, April 29^th at 5:00 pm our kindergarten teachers will be available to meet with you to talk about West Wing’s kindergarten program.   You will be able to register your child during this time.   Make sure you bring with you your child’s original birth certificate, shots record, your driver’s license and APS, water, gas or mortgage or lease agreement paperwork in order to complete the registration process.  A copier will be available so you can take the originals home.

PLASTIC BOTTLE TOP COLLECTION:  Mrs. Swingle (2^nd grade teacher) is collecting ANY and ALL plastic bottle tops (water bottles, milk jugs, medicine bottles, sports drinks etc.) for chemotherapy patients.   For every bottle top turned in ONE MINUTE of chemotherapy will be provided FREE OF CHARGE to those who are unable to afford this type of treatment!   Please start saving your plastic tops and turn them in to the school as often as you’d like.  Right now we do not have a deadline for accepting these but once we know we’ll let you know!

ATTENTION PARENTS!  Please make sure you are using the parent drop off/pick up loop at the school when dropping off or picking up your student.  Community members have notified the school of an increase in parents parking on residential streets, especially after school.  Specifically, there are concerns over cars parked at 85th Dr. and W Maya Dr., and 84th Dr. and W. Maya Dr.   Please plan on meeting your child at the school drop off loop from now on.  Thank you!

TEACHER APPRECIATION:  Teacher Appreciation week begins on Monday, May 4^th.   Let’s show our teachers how much we appreciate their hard work and dedication.   “I wish my teacher knew how much I…” papers will be available in the library and the front office for students to finish the sentence.   We will read the statements on the daily announcements during the month of May so please pick up a slip to fill out with your child while you’re in the office or have your child bring one home.    Our PTSA is planning special daily activities for our teachers and that information will follow as soon as it’s available.

EARLY RELEASE:  Friday, May 8^th  for staff development

Kinder – 8^th grades    8:45 – 12:05

SPIRIT NIGHT AT CHIPOTLE:  Wednesday, May 13^th.  Come have dinner at Chipotle (Lake Pleasant Parkway / Happy Valley Rd.) from 4:30 – 8:30pm and a portion of the proceeds will come back to West Wing School!    You must have the flyer with you (or you can show it from your smart phone) in order for WW to receive their percentage.   Look for a flyer on the PTSA website and in your child’s folder this week.   Thank you!!

SPRING BAND CONCERT:  Thursday, May 14^th @ 6:30 pm in the MPR room our amazing band will be playing for all to hear!

8^th GRADE DANCE:  Friday, May 15^th will be our last dance of the school year  6:00pm in the MPR room.  Dress code will be enforced so please no spaghetti straps or strapless dresses without a sweater or cover up.  More information to follow.

SCIENCE FAIR:  Tuesday, May 19^th at 5:45 in the MPR room.

NO SCHOOL:  Monday, May 28^th for Memorial Day

8^TH GRADE PROMOTION:  Wednesday, May 27^th at 6:30 pm in the MPR room.   Please be aware that in order to walk on promotion night all school accounts must be clear.   Text books and library books must be turned in or paid for, cafeteria accounts must be paid in full.   Promotion practice will take place in the morning followed by an end of the year party.  The 8^th graders will be dismissed at 12:05pm.  More information to follow.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL:  Thursday, May 8^th.   Kindergarten – 7^th grades are dismissed at 12:05pm.  Have a safe and wonderful summer!!

WEST WING CAR MAGNETS:  Our Student Council is selling good looking West Wing School magnets for only $5!    Pick one up from the front office.

At school, there’s always a meal ready to be served!

Some mornings, it’s tough to find the time to make sure your kids are eating a nutritious breakfast. On those days, why not send them to the School Breakfast Program? Each meal meets government nutritional guidelines and standards.  Schools are required to provide a breakfast meal that includes fruit, whole-grain rich items, and low fat or fat free milk. Check your child’s menu to see the variety of nutritious choices available at School Breakfast, or stop by to sample the food yourself!

As the summer approaches, kids often become more restless and distracted at school. You can help to make sure that their last weeks of school are productive by ensuring that they begin the day with a nutritious breakfast. Studies show a good breakfast makes kids more alert, less distractible, and better behaved in school; it can even improve their test scores!

Let’s keep our students focused by making sure they begin every school day with a balanced meal at home or at the School Breakfast Program.
