Funding for Student Safety Pending Special Bond Election
The Deer Valley Unified School District’s Governing Board called for a 2013 Special Bond Election in the amount of $158,315,000 to fund safety, security, efficiency, and modernization projects through the year 2020. Safety is a top priority for DVUSD and some district schools are now 30 years old.
The cost to the owner with a home assessed at $100,000 would be an estimated $69 per year. This funding is being structured to not increase the projected tax rate.
Bond funding could allow the district to install safety and security camera systems on school campuses and replace the 10-12 unairconditioned buses that are transporting students every day.
The state has cut capital funding for the past five years, causing steep budget deficits for DVUSD schools.

DVUSD’s Governing Board to Vote on 1% Employee Salary Increase
The Deer Valley Unified School District’s Governing Board previewed a proposed budget on June 25 and will vote to adopt a finalized budget during the July 9 Governing Board meeting. DVUSD’s Negotiated Solutions Team (NTS) is recommending that the additional funds to be received by the newly enacted State budget be used to modify the previously approved FY14 salary and benefit language to add (or change) that all employees receive a 1% base salary increase.
New Administrators on Campus
The Deer Valley Unified School District’s Governing Board welcomed two new assistant principals, Nicole Basl, Sierra Verde and Michelle Martin, Mountain Ridge High School at the June 25th Board Meeting and approved four new principals to begin the 2013-14 school year.
