DVUSD Students Host “Leadership Summit”
Close to 300 Students Impacted

Close to 300 students from the Deer Valley Unified School District (DVUSD) attended the interactive "Leadership - Common People Doing Uncommon Things" Student Summit at Barry Goldwater High School last week, hosted by the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. The Summit was designed to give students information through hands-on activities that build leadership and teamwork.

Some areas of focus were team building, communication, problem solving, leadership style assessment, integrity and more. Teams of students in grades 6-12 representing each school will now go back to their campuses and create and implement their own local projects based on the knowledge they gained about leadership.

The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council is made up of students in grades 8-12 from each middle, K-8, and high school. Each year the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council has a goal of creating a service learning project that involves DVUSD schools and makes a difference in the local community. In previous years, each team attending the Summit would return to their school and implement a local project designed to have a positive impact and enhance the quality of life in the community, impacting all 35,000 students in the district.
