Tom Boone Resigns from DVUSD Governing Board

Governing Board member Tom Boone has resigned from his elected position on the Deer Valley Unified School District Governing Board effective immediately. He was appointed to the Board in 2007 by then-County Schools Superintendent Sandra Dowling and began serving his elected term in 2009.

Governing Board President Ann Ordway commended Mr. Boone for his many years of service to the community both in the legislature and on the school board. “During his term with DVUSD, he was at the forefront of implementing energy efficiency initiatives including the largest K-12 solar project in Arizona; buses fueled with bio-diesel; and resulting in six Energy Star Awards for schools. He is a champion for college and career readiness and pursued additional Career and Technical Education options for high school students,” said Ordway.

Dr. Don Covey, Maricopa County Superintendent of Schools, will make the appointment to fill the vacancy. A collaboration of the Governing Board President, the Superintendent and the President of Deer Valley Education Association will conduct a vetting process for all nominee candidates.

DVUSD Superintendent John Kriekard will guide the nomination procedures and processes outlined by the Maricopa County Superintendent of Schools Office. Specific details about the nomination process will be shared with parents and community and posted on the district’s web site at www.dvusd.org.
