The Chat and Chew Book Club had their second meeting on January 12 and discussed the second book in the Shadow Children series Among the Imposters.

Sierra Verde

Sierra Verde is happy to announce that America’s most popular school assembly will be hosted at our school on Friday, January 29 at 9:00-9:45. The NED Show® is a program experienced by nearly 2 million kids a year worldwide. The assembly combines a great message with yo-yos, humor and audience participation to teach students how to develop three valuable characteristics involved in becoming champions at school and in life...Never give up (focus, persistence), Encourage others (kindness, shared learning), Do your best® (diligence, excellence).

The City of Glendale and Centerline Project in partnership with the City of Glendale Fire Department proudly announced an art contest for all students in City of Glendale Schools that Sierra Verde students will be participating in. This art contest requires students to create a design that could be painted on one of the 50 fire hydrants within the boundaries of the Glendale Centerline.

Sierra Verde 7th grade teacher Niki Hart started ePortfolios with all of 7th grade students. Students set up folders and selected their first item in Language Arts. They wrote a reflection pertaining to their reasoning and thoughts on selection of the piece. Many selected to have their glogster project. Mrs. Hart stepped students through taking a screen shot and placing this in accessories in paint program. From here they are able to cut and paste into a word document to then add their reflection. This way they can get a color copy as opposed to printing and then scanning this in black and white. Students were excited to start compiling their own working portfolio. Mrs. Hart will be using Blackboard or weebly in the future so students can have a professional portfolio as well and add the dimensional work.
