Deer Valley Crossroads Students Water Audit Sparks Change
Students from Deer Valley Crossroads, in the Deer Valley Unified School District, received a water efficiency grant through the University of Arizona last year which they used to install high-efficiency toilets. A recent result from this grant was a yearly water savings of approximately 52,543 gallons.
This project was a result from a workshop focused on Project WETs Water Audit Activity last year which Crossroads teacher Mrs. Lisa Davis implemented with her students. After students audited the water use of their school they recommended water conservation practices based on their findings. Students were then encouraged to translate their recommendations into action by applying for the U of A grant.
Project WET (developed with funding from the United States Agency for International Development) is committed to educating children, parents, and educators about water education and community involvement.
