WEST WING SCHOOL NEWS!!

SPRING PICTURE DAY: Wednesday, March 1st for all grades

SPRING BOOK FAIR: During our book fair you can help out your child’s teacher(s) by improving their classroom libraries. You can either put money (any amount) on a gift certificate and the teacher will choose books at the end of the fair OR simply have your child purchase a book of their choice that they would like to see in their classroom library! Either way a special “donated by” sticker will be put in the book with your child’s name as the donor.

Fair times:

Monday – Wednesday: 8:30am – 4:00pm

Thursday: 8:30am – 6:30pm **Literacy Night and Showcase for Learning night also!

Friday: 8:30am – 1:00pm

LITERACY NIGHT: Thursday, March 2^nd from 5:00pm – 6:30pm in our MPR. There will be games, crafts, photos, Dr. Seuss characters and food trucks! Bring your whole family – this is going to be FUN!

SHOWCASE FOR LEARNING NIGHT: Thursday, March 2^nd from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. This is a school wide event where the community will have an opportunity to see firsthand the wonderfully effective academics that we provide at West Wing School. Invite your neighbors and friends and come see why West Wing is an “A-Excelling” school!

KINDERGARTEN SNEAK PEEK: Thursday, March 2^nd from 5:00pm – 6:00pm in our Kinder classrooms. Meet the teachers, see what they have planned for your child. You can register your kindergartner during this event also if you’d like. Please bring:

-Original birth certificate

-Proof of immunizations

-Proof of residency (APS, Gas or Water bill, Rental agreement or purchase documents)

-Driver’s License

-legal document(s) (If there’s a special situation)

PTSA HARKINS MOVIE PASSES: Are you looking for a fun, cool and inexpensive activity with your kids this summer? Well, look no further. We will once again be selling Harkins Summer Movie Fun Passes. For only $7 per person you will get a pass for 10 movies weeks of movies. Watch for a flyer coming home this week. All ticket orders will be due on March 3rd.

COSTCO EVENT: A free event for everyone! Saturday, March 4^th 8:00am – 10:30am at the Cave Creek Costco / 2450 E Beardsley Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85050

For every *$100.00 spent this day (*excluding gas, Costco cash card purchases and online purchases), Costco will donate a ream of paper to the school you designate. *Everything in the warehouse can be purchased and counts towards the $100/ream count, including membership fees and gift card purchases for restaurants, etc., It adds up in the end! On average we donate 3- 4 full pallets of paper! Wow!!! Spread the word!!

BATTLE OF THE BOOK COMPETITION: Our next battle is scheduled for Monday, March 27^th at 2:30pm. This is the Monday when we return from Spring Break so it’s very important everyone is in attendance so team mates are not left alone during the competition. If you would like to attend please RSVP to Shari.mills-zumstein@dvusd.org so there can have enough seating for all.

AZ MERIT TESTING BEGINS: Tuesday, March 28^th and continues through April. Please refrain from scheduling doctor / dentist appts or vacations during your child’s testing times. After February 27^th we will have a link here for you to check your child’s testing days.

STEAM EVENT: The Science PLC is busy planning for our STEAM night on May 10th. We are looking for professionals to come and set up a table that will tell students all about how science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics plays a role in their career each day. PTSA DINNER NIGHT: Panda Express on Friday, March 10^th from 5pm – 10pm.

WEST WING MOUNTAIN LIVING MAGAZINE: is doing a special Mother's Day issue for the May edition of the magazine. We are asking that children that reside in the community answer the following question: Why do you love mom?

They are then instructed to have their legal guardian email their (brief - 1 sentence at most) answers along with their names to me at allison.kindler@n2publishing.com by the end of March in order to have their write up featured in the "Meet Your Neighbors" article for that month.

PARENTS OF BIKE RIDERS: Please talk to your kids about the following issues we are having with bike riders:

leaving their bikes outside the gates unlocked
putting their bikes in the bike racks neatly so others don’t trip over them. Several are simply dropping them in the isle way or at the bike entrance.
always locking up their bikes. Just because the school gates are locked does not mean another student can’t grab that bike and take it when the gates are opened at the end of the school day.

CPR CLASSES: CPR class will be given by Gregory Serrano here at WW School on April 12^th. The cost is $20 per person. If interested please sign up with Nurse Michelle at 623-376-5010
