WEST WING SCHOOL NEWS!!

 

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES:   THIS Week!!  Please contact your child’s teacher if you have not scheduled a time to meet with them.             

 

EARLY RELEASE:  Thursday, February 11th AND Friday, February 12th for parent / teacher conferences.    All grades will be release at 12:05pm.

 

NO SCHOOL:  Monday, February 15th in observance of President’s Day

 

SPRING BOOK FAIR:   Monday, February 22nd – Friday, February 26th in our library.

Monday – Wednesday:   8:30am – 4:00pm

Thursday:    8:30am – 7:00pm

Friday:   8:30am – 1:00pm

Our library gets to keep a percentage of all sales and this is what we use purchase new books, replace lost or damaged books and supplies to repair them.   Please come visit and support our library.    If you’d like to volunteer for one or more of the shifts please click on the link:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0e4eabaf29a0fc1-volunteer

ALL FOR BOOKS!:  During our book fairs we try to help our teachers build their classroom libraries.  Your child’s teacher will choose books and put them in their designated bucket for you to pick out and purchase for them while you are at the fair.    Another way to help them is by donating any dollar amount in their name.  At the end of the week they will come and choose books for their classroom.   This method of donation is done through Scholastic’s “All for Books” program and Scholastic will donate one book for every dollar spent!!  The teacher’s will be given the donation slips so they can thank your child for their new book.  

 

LITERACY NIGHT:    Thursday, February 25th 5:00pm – 6:30pm in our MPR room.   West Wing will have lots of fun planned to encourage reading.   Please contact Christina Riccitelli if you are interested in volunteering:  Christina.riccitelli@dvusd.org or 623-376-5053.    

 

SHOWCASE FOR LEARNING NIGHT:   Thursday, February 25th  5:00pm – 6:30pm.  This is an evening the community will have an opportunity to see firsthand the wonderfully effective academics that we provide at West Wing School.   Invite your neighbors and friends and come see why West Wing is an “A-Excelling” school!   In all grade level classrooms. 

 

 KINDER SNEAK PEEK NIGHT:   If you have a kinder or you know of a friend or neighbor who will have a kinder starting next school year this is a great time to bring them to meet our kinder teachers and see what West Wing has planned for those students.   You can also have them registered for next year!!!   This will take place in our kinder classrooms starting at 5:00pm – 6:30pm. 

 

CLOTHING DONATION DRIVE:  Our PTSA is holding a clothing drive on Thursday, February 25th from 5:00pm – 6:30pm.   You know the rule:   If you haven’t worn it in over a year you’re not going to!!    This is a good time to clean out those closets and bring in all those shirts, shoes, pants and skirts that someone else will get good use of!     

 

DADDY/DAUGHTER DANCE:  Friday, February 26th  from 6:00pm – 8:30pm in our MPR room.   Western theme:  Cowboys and Angels!!!  Girls dress up as angels or cowgirls and dads put on your best cowboy gear!   Tickets are being sold NOW on the PTSA website.  Tickets will not be sold at the door.  Please turn in order form with payment or purchase tickets online by February 17th.   PTSA is looking for volunteers to help with the dance: http://westwing.my-pta.org/

 

HARKIN’S MOVIE TICKETS:   Our PTSA is selling Harkin’s Summer Movie Tickets!    See 10 movies for only $7!!!   That’s $.70 a ticket!   Whoa!!!    Visit:   http://westwing.my-pta.org/content.asp?PageID=15      to purchase your tickets today!!  The deadline is Friday, March 4th

 

AZ MERIT TESTING:   Begins Tuesday, March 29th and continues through Wednesday, April 20th.   While testing is underway we will not be able to allow volunteers on campus nor will we be able to have parent visits.   Please refrain from scheduling doctor or dentist appointments on their testing days.   It is important that all students arrive at school on time and are not taken early from school.   To help with scheduling the following are the testing dates for your child’s grade level:

3rd Grade:  March 29th, April 4th, April 8th, April 13th

4th Grade:  March 30th, April 5th, April 14th, April 18th

5th Grade:  April 6th, April 14th

6th Grade:  April 7th, April 15th

7th Grade:  March 31st, April 11th, April 19th

8th Grade:  April 1st, April 12th, April 14th, April 20th

 

DONATIONS:    PLEASE HELP!!   We are looking for donations of Leap Pad Readers, books, and cartridges and/or Franklin Spell Checks  for our younger students to use for reading, phonics and number fluency the classroom.

If you have any used or new Leap Pad Readers or Franklin Spell Checks you are willing to donate, please send them in.  Thank you for your continued support!

 

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS:  Our next competition is Monday, March 14th at 2:30 pm in the library.   ALL teams will be in the library competing against each other!  If you would like to attend the competition please RSVP to shari.mills-zumstein@dvusd.org asap.   Thank you.
