WEST WING SCHOOL NEWS!!

KINDER & 1ST GRADES ONLY:  Curriculum Night Wednesday, August 5^th.

Kinder:  5:00-5:45pm

1st Grade:  6:00-6:45pm

NEW FAMILY SCHOOL TOURS:   Wednesday, August 5^th @ 10:00 AM

If you are new to our school this is a great opportunity for you and your child/children to get a tour of the school.  After the tour we will be glad to answer any questions you may have.

MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT / OPEN HOUSE:  Thursday, August 6^th

Kinder – 3^rd grades:  4:30-5:15pm

4^th-6^th grades: 5:15-6:00pm

7^th-8^th grades: 6:15-7:00pm

BACK TO SCHOOL BREAKFAST FOR PARENTS!  Monday, August 10^th at 8:50am in the cafeteria.  Come and have a nice breakfast with other parents to celebrate (or have a shoulder to cry on) the first day of school!

2^ND GRADE – 8^TH GRADES ONLY:  Curriculum Night Thursday, August 20^th

2nd – 3rd:  4:30-5:30pm

4th-6th: 5:30-6:30pm

7th-8th: 6:30-7:30pm

MATH PRESENTATION:  Thursday, August 20^th in the Media Center

2^nd-3^rd:  4:00-4:30pm

4^th-5^th: 5:00-5:30pm

VOLUNTEER TRAINING:  If you plan to attend a field trip or help anywhere on campus you must attend a training session.   There will be additional sessions at various locations around the district for the first few months of school.   Visit the DVUSD website for dates and locations or contact our front office.  West Wing will have a training session on Thursday, August 20^th in Room# 324 at 3:30 pm and again at 4:00pm.

KINDER READINESS WORKSHOP:   West Wing will be hosting  a three class Kinder-Readiness Workshop on our campus. This is a free workshop presented by DVFRC.  The workshop dates will be Aug 19th, 26th and Sept. 2nd from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on our campus.  The workshop is an adult/child, interactive 3 - part workshop series for parents or caregivers with children ages three to five years old.  Families of West Wing will receive first priority to register before the public fills the class..

COMING IN FROM OUR PTSA:  For our sponsors we have some great news, the Boosterthon t-shirt date has been extended and we still have a few spots open.  We would love to fill all the spots and have prices ranging from $250 - $750.  If you or anyone you know would be interested in supporting this event please have them call Michelle McCaughey at 602-791-2102 or you can respond to this email.  You can click here for the PTSA Website and find the t-shirt layout there.

We are also looking for a business to sponsor the Back to School Breakfast!  This breakfast is for all parents and will be located in the MPR starting at 8:50 on the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 10th.

EARLY RELEASE:  All students dismissed at 12:05pm  Friday, August 21^st

OTTOMAN:  Our library is looking for an ottoman (or two) to replace some current worn out seating for the students.   If you have an ottoman that no longer compliments your décor PLEASE consider donating it to the school.   Please contact Shari.mills-zumstein@dvusd.org or call 623-376-5013 to arrange pick up or delivery.  Thank you!!

CAFETERIA  ****There will be a price increase for lunches in the 2015-16 school year.    Breakfast prices remain the same.

Elementary Lunch - $2.60

Adults - $3.50 (includes drink)

2015-16 SPORTS:   7^th and 8^th graders interested in playing any sports at WW will need a physical, permission slip and emergency form filled out.   You can pick up a packet from the front office or download it from the WW website.   Volleyball will be starting up soon and it’s a good idea to have your child’s physical and necessary paperwork filled out and ready to go.  The physical is good for the entire school year.

Please follow these guides lines for student drop off/pick-up and walkers.

• Walkers:  gates don't open till 8:30am.
• Students buying Breakfast:  Front gate by the MPR is open at 8:15 allowing access.  Breakfast is only $1.25, which is a good option if they don't have time to eat at home.
• Students being dropped off/picked-up
  • Drop off:  Gates open at 8:15am allowing parents to pull in and drop off breakfast students.  All other students are not allowed  on campus till 8:30 when supervision starts.
  • Pick up:  Gate opens at 3:15pm. There is no parking/waiting anywhere along High Desert Dr. before these gates open.  Consider coming 5 minutes after the bell rings when traffic congestion is lower.

Please be considerate and follow all directions of the crossing guards.  They are out there trying to keep all our students safe and we want them to be safe as well.
