WEST WING SCHOOL NEWS!!
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM OUR ASST. PRINCIPAL: Attention bike riders and parents of bike riders! West Wing School has received some reports from concerned community members that students have not been biking safely on neighborhood streets. Students have been crossing without looking, and riding in the middle of the street especially when they leave from our trail gate and get to the cul-de-sac. Please remember to bike safely on all streets, even in your neighborhood. Parents, please review bike safety tips with your child. Thank you!

FROM OUR CAFETERIA:
Breakfast Logic
Breakfast is a good thing!
When students need to take achievement tests, schools strongly urge them to eat breakfast first on testing days. Why? Because we know that when students eat breakfast, they perform better and are better able to concentrate. Yet on “normal” days, many students fail to eat breakfast; they’re too busy, too tired, or just don’t know what to eat.
Let’s help students to perform better every day, by making sure they eat a healthy breakfast at home or at school.
Menu:
March’s alternatives are: 2 cheese quesadillas w/ salsa OR spicy chicken sandwich
Thursday, March 5th: Beef & Broccoli with rice
Friday, March 6th: Turkey burgers
Monday, March 9th: Hand Tossed Pizza
Tuesday, March 10th: Orange chicken
Wednesday, March 11th: Bean & Cheese tostada
Thursday, March 12th: Macaroni & Cheese
Friday, March 13th: Chicken & rice burrito
Join us for a DVUSD School Wellness Policy Committee Meeting
DVUSD needs dedicated community members to be a part of its Wellness Policy Committee. This committee will be responsible for recommending updates to our current district wellness policy.
To be successful the committee needs representation from all groups in the district (teachers, parents, nurses, PE teachers, food services workers, students, administrators and community members).
Please contact Sarah Martinelli, MS, RD in the Food & Nutrition Department at 623.445.5165 or sarah.martinelli@dvusd.org if you are interested in joining the team.
Not able to be a member yourself? Spread the word to someone else who you think might be able to take part.

2015 Deer Valley University: … from boundaries to budget and more! Now in its 12th year, Deer Valley University is a series of workshops for parents, community members, and staff in the Deer Valley Unified School District. Deer Valley University is intended to provide participants with a basic understanding of how the Deer Valley Unified School District works. A look at various departments within the district, along with the rules and regulations governing schools and districts, will be offered. You will learn about DVUSD from boundaries to budget and more! You have two options for attending. Participants who register for and attend all five sessions will “graduate” from DVU. Participants may also elect to register for specific sessions that are of interest. Either way, we invite you to come and learn about your school district. This class will meet for five consecutive Thursdays in the Governing Board Room at the District Office from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. beginning April 9th. How do I register? Call Carrie Finch at 623-445-5003 or email carrie.finch@dvusd.org.
