DVUSD Named a 2010-11 AP Achievement District by College Board
Recognized for Increase in AP Students
May 18, 2011 – The Deer Valley Unified School District has been named a 2010-11 AP Achievement District by the College Board. Only 388 school districts in the nation received this distinction. Deer Valley was one of four school districts in Arizona to be recognized. From 2008 to 2010, Deer Valley has increased the number of students participating in Advanced Placement (AP) classes from 617 to 788, while improving the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher, the score typically needed to earn college credit, from 60% in 2008 to 67% in 2010.
“Our teachers continue to tightly align curriculum to advanced placement requirements while providing strong instructional support so students meet the rigor required in AP classes,” said DVUSD Associate Superintendent Cindy Rudrud. “The district is proud of this achievement, which has enabled an increased number of students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school.”
The College Board’s AP Program enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. Through more than 30 college-level courses, each culminating in a rigorous exam, AP provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement or both.
