DVUSD Encourages Parents to Take Your Child to Work in June

PHOENIX, Ariz. – March 30, 2011 – The annual Take Your Daughter and Son to Work Day is scheduled for Thursday, April 28. The Deer Valley Unified School District (DVUSD) is asking parents to have their child attend school on this day. In Arizona many businesses have adopted an alternative date in June which does not impact student achievement and classroom instruction.

Missing school can impact a child’s academic achievement, disrupt the school’s routines, and affect other children’s learning. While DVUSD values career exploration for its students and encourages family activities, the district is asking parents to send their child to school and take part in any activities that their business organization may have scheduled in June.

Because the district is neither sponsoring nor endorsing this event as an instructional day, children who are not in attendance at school will be marked absent in accordance with our daily attendance procedures.

DVUSD encourages parents to take their child to work at a time when it does not impact their educational development. Stakes have never been higher for student achievement. Everyday a child is out of school his or her learning achievement suffers. It is vital that the district maximizes classroom learning.
