DVUSD Receives $1 Million for Federal T.A.P School Grant Program New T.A.P. Principals Named at Constitution and Village Meadows

The Deer Valley Unified School District has received the Teacher Incentive Fund grant led by Arizona State University in coordination with the U.S. Department of Education, the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching, and the Arizona Department of Education for Constitution and Village Meadows Elementary Schools.

A $500,000 grant will be awarded to each school to fund the Teacher Advancement Program (T.A.P.). The Governing Board named the principals for Constitution and Village Meadows to lead this exciting initiative. Currently principal at Diamond Canyon in Anthem, Dr. Mark Oesterle will transfer to Constitution effective July 1, 2011. Jean Koeppen will continue her principalship at Village Meadows.

The goals of a T.A.P. school include increasing student achievement, retaining highly effective educators and fostering exemplary school culture in the highest need communities across the state. Teachers at a T.A.P. school will receive higher-than-average, pay-for performance bonuses, differentiated pay, and professional development as incentives to take on additional responsibilities and leadership roles.

Seventy-one Arizona schools across 18 school districts have been selected to receive the T.A.P. grant. Ten districts are urban and 8 are rural impacting 46,000 students. The T.A.P. grant is an exciting way to support teachers in the classroom who in turn support each student’s success.

T.A.P. schools across the country have shown an increase of 1 to 1-1/2 years academic growth in a school year. This model program will create the framework for improvement of teaching and learning in Deer Valley.
