DVUSD Invites Community to Bid Superintendent Farewell Honorary Reception – January 21

The Deer Valley Unified School District (DVUSD) is hosting a farewell reception for its Superintendent of eight years on Friday, January 21 from 4:30 – 6 p.m. at the District Office Executive Governing Board Room located at 20402 N. 15th Avenue.

Dr. McElyea has accepted an opportunity with Arizona State University to be the Executive Director for the Arizona Ready-for-Rigor Teacher Incentive Fund Grant, a federal grant led by Arizona State University in coordination with the U.S. Department of Education, Arizona Department of Education, and the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching beginning January 31.

Over these recent years, Deer Valley has distinguished itself as an award-winning PreK-12 and Excelling school district. Together with Dr. McElyea’s leadership, great teachers, support staff, and school and district leaders, Deer Valley has achieved many accomplishments including:

•       Construction of nine new schools, numerous school remodels and updates,  and the largest K-12 Solar Energy Project 
•       Increased technology and Integration into classroom instruction 
•       Developed new and innovative school programs 
•       Passed six elections for Maintenance and Operations Override, Bond, and Capital Override 
•       Implemented a systems approach for continuous improvement 
•       Raised the bar on student achievement 

During this time, in partnership with the community, DVUSD has built sustaining relationships with the leadership of its school PTA’s, Interfaith Advisory Council representing 100 Houses of Worship, developed 300 district business partnerships and countless school partnerships, trained more than 6,000 school volunteers, enrolled hundreds of citizens in Deer Valley University, improved school and district communication through upgraded school and district websites, and delved into social media.
