DVUSD Hosts Override Election Community Forum
The Deer Valley Unified School District (DVUSD) is hosting a community forum to present factual information on an Override Election on Tuesday, January 26 at 5:30 p.m. in the Central Governing Board Room at District Office located at 20402 N. 15th Ave.
The DVUSD Governing Board called for an election to be held on March 9, 2010 to continue the existing Maintenance and Operations Override passed by voters in 2005 and to provide an additional 5% funding to maintain existing programs throughout the district. If voters fail to approve the election, the district will be required to reduce the 2011-12 override budget by one-third approximately $5.5 million each year for three years.
This election is greatly needed as it will not only allow for the continuation of existing offerings but it will provide for additional resources necessary due to the fiscal challenges Arizona currently faces and the development of innovative education programs. The reauthorization of the existing 10% will not be an increase to homeowners; however, the new 5% would mean approximately $60 a year for an average home valued at $260,000.
Factual information can be found on the district web site at http://www.dvusd.org/election. A group of concerned parents and citizens have formed the Coalition for Excellence in Education. If you have questions, please contact Sandi Hicks, Director of Public Relations at 623-445-5011.
