Deer Valley Elementary Schools

Anthem
Last month, Anthem School held the first quarter awards assembly for Principal's List, Honor Roll and Character Awards. The following students were awarded Character Awards for displaying one of the six pillars of character:

3rd Grade: Bai Hui Spencer; Kaley Vasquez; Senna Taylor; Heath Lothes; Madison Milacek; Alex Nelson; Natalie Reichert; Tak Tanigawa; Colter Bonaroti; Rylee Pedersen; Georgia Vallery; David Drubka; Torye Calleja; Chandler Cool-Landon; Priscilla Imperial; Keinan Brown; Joel Clegg; Jillian Poznecki; Madison Jackson; Anna Christoff; Katelyn (Katie) Weber; Drake Maitem; Matthew Rice; and Alex Blanche.

7th Grade: Michael Sperry; Jaycie Van Kleunen; Breyden Rocha; Taylor Ellsworth; Chloe Fleck; and Luis Contreras.

8th Grade: Wyatt Quinn; Aaron Coloma; Ray Hoffman; Kristin Stone; Janell Tully; and Haley Kirkendoll.

Constitution
Two Constitution students were selected from each grade level to participate in a program sponsored by AZLimo and Chick-Fil-A to recognize and reward children displaying good character and good grades. Fourteen students were given the opportunity to ride in a yellow hummer limo to Chick-Fil-A for lunch with Dr. Stephanie Tennille, Constitution�s Principal. The event was an opportunity to reward the students.

Jeanne Goetz from Horace Mann visited the Constitution campus to present two brand new bicycles to Damira Garcia in Mrs. Geyers� 2nd Grade Class and Peyton Jones in Mr. Smiths� 5th Grade Class for good behavior, character, and completing their work.

Constitution hosted Junior Achievement Day with 41 volunteers from American Express teaching JA material for the day. It was an exciting experience for the students, volunteers, and teachers. Twenty-six classes had social studies lessons which matched grade level curriculums. A chicken lunch was served by the PTSA for the volunteers and teachers.

Desert Winds
Desert Winds 6th grade students will be taking a field trip to Aviation Communications and Surveillance Systems on Thursday, December 3rd from 12:45 -2:30p.m. This is the ninth consecutive year ACSS has hosted this event. Student groups will have the opportunity to rotate through the following four departments (Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, Human Resources) spending 15 minutes at each location learning about ACSS and its products and services.

Diamond Canyon
Diamond Canyon will be hosting a winter concert on Monday, December 14th at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Greenbrier
Greenbrier Student Council is sponsoring a canned food drive that will end Friday, December 4th. The goal is 600 pounds of food and to encourage participation the student council has challenged each building at the school to bring in more canned food than any other building. The building collecting the most food will receive a popcorn and movie party.

Kindergarteners in Ms. Jeneil Killman�s class and second graders in Ms. Ruthanne Krznarich�s class will have a unique experience participating in the �Arizona Cardinals Milk and Cookies�, (presented by SRP and Safeway). On Tuesday, December 1st the students will have the opportunity to meet an Arizona Cardinals football player who will read some stories to the classes and share some milk and cookies.

Highland Lakes
Highland Lakes will be hosting a 7th and 8th grade band concert on Thursday, December 10th at 7 p.m. in the Multi Purpose Room.

Park Meadows
Park Meadows students Caleb Crabbs and Mykensey Aldridge were selected to receive the first ever Student Art Achievement Awards. Park Meadows art teacher Doris Vertefeuille has partnered with local State Farm Agent Mark Crotty to create a monthly program to recognize student art achievement. November kicked off the program with the sixth grade creating works with a Thanksgiving theme. The students received a special State Farm bag filled with a $5 Visa card, lunch bag, and piggy bank.

Sunset Ridge
Sunset Ridge Elementary students will join thousands of students from over 100 countries whose artwork is showcased on Artsonia, the world's largest online kid's art museum. Sunset Ridge art teacher Camille Obert-Goralski has teamed up with Artsonia. Visitors can browse the artwork in the school gallery by grade level or by specific exhibits. All of Artsonia's artwork (nearly 5 million and counting) are viewable online at http://www.artsonia.com and any teacher or parent can create an online art gallery for their child or school. Artsonia is donating 15% of their annual product revenue back to school art programs.

Terramar
Terramar's National Junior Honor Society will be volunteering their gift wrapping services at Barnes and Nobel (Happy Valley Road) on Dec 12th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds go to Sojourner House.

Deer Valley Middle Schools
Desert Sky
Desert Sky will be having a Holiday Skate at Great Skate on Friday, December 11th from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to this event.

Deer Valley High Schools
Barry Goldwater
Barry Goldwater donated 19 turkeys to help three group homes and two individual families with a turkey for this past Thanksgiving holiday. The turkeys were donated from a Goldwater parent.

Deer Valley
Four Deer Valley High School athletes signed their Letter of Intent for college scholarships this month. Information follows on each athlete:

Jenny Tyler - 4 year varsity letterman, made all-region 08/09, three sport athlete (cross country, soccer, and softball), outstanding student, looking forward to attending college at Northwestern University.

Claire Zampini - 4 year varsity letterman, made all-region 08/09, three sport athlete (soccer, softball, and track), outstanding student, looking forward to attending Grand Canyon University.

Jacob Doyle - 3 year varsity letterman is a returning all-region player and a starter in two positions. He is an outstanding athlete who lettered in both football and baseball during his last 3 years. He will also bring a lot of attention to the program from the Professional level as well. Jacob will be going to University of Arizona.

Kaitlynn Ausmus - 4 year student government, student body president 09, member of National Honor Society, scholar athlete 08/09, 1st Team All-Region 08, 5AII All State Honorable Mention 08, Northwest All-Region Team 09. Kaitlynn will receive a full volleyball scholarship to Grand Canyon University.

Mountain Ridge
Mountain Ridge High School student Matthew Reinhard was selected out of 1,800 students to receive a thespian scholarship in the amount of $1,000 by the Arizona Thespian Society. Reinhard was presented with the scholarship at the AZ State Thespian Festival held at the convention center in downtown Phoenix.

This event was attended by over 1,800 teenagers. Of these 1,800 students, 87 students met deadlines and requirements and participated in the scholarship audition sessions. Of these 87 students, one student from each participating school was nominated by the local troupe sponsor to qualify for the Thespian Scholarship awarded at the festival.
