Deer Valley Elementary Schools
Arrowhead
Arrowhead Elementary appreciates all the hours that parents provide to the school and students. Arrowhead would like to show their appreciation by inviting all of their volunteers to �Volunteer Lunch� on Tuesday, April 21. Please RSVP by Tuesday, April 14 at 623-376-4104.
Bellair
Bellair, Desert Mountain, and Highland Lakes unicycle clubs will be participating in the Cave Creek parade on Saturday, April 4.
New River
The New River Green Committee is currently collecting items for a Re-use Rummage Sale, scheduled for Saturday, April 18 in the New River School parking lot from 7a.m.-1p.m. Please drop off any donated items at the school rotunda or call Jana Wild for other arrangements at 623-341-4712. During this event, New River will sponsor a fundraiser BBQ and rent spaces for local community members to advertise their business.
Park Meadows
Park Meadows will be hosting a student and staff talent show on Wednesday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Admission is free and community is welcomed to attend. Park Meadows is located at 20012 N. 35th Ave., Glendale 85308.
Paseo Hills
Fifth graders in Claire Ray�s class recently completed their Revolutionary War Easter Egg Hunt. Students were placed into six different militia teams with four minutemen per team. Teams had to hide their general around campus in designated safe areas. They had to race, two at a time, to Ms. Ray (out on the playground) and correctly answer four questions at a time. Afterwards, they revealed their wild cards. There were 48 questions that students had to answer and a total of 12 wild cards.
Sixth graders in Language Arts teacher Tracy Livingston are working on a power point project �Help Paseo Stay Green� which will be presented to the entire school to share the knowledge about helping Paseo Hills stay green.

Barry Goldwater
The Anthony Bates Foundation has partnered with the Barry Goldwater High School to offer young students and athletes over 11 years old cardiac screenings on Saturday, April 4. The Anthony Bates Foundation will offer cardiac screening tests for $30. Appointments and payments can be made at any DVUSD high school bookstore or the Anthony Bates Foundation. Boulder Creek
The BCHS National Honor Society and the Advanced Media Production Class produced a United Blood Services promotional video entitled, "We Need More Heroes" to promote the school's two community wide blood drives in Anthem. This video is one of five finalists in the contest sponsored by United Blood Services. The winning video will be shown at an Arizona Diamondback's Baseball game in May. The results of the contest will be known by the end of this month.
The Anthem Veterans of Foreign War will recognize BCHS students Amy Suto, Thomas Robinson, and media teacher Carolyn Hoffman for directing and producing the annual Veteran's Day Parade conducted this past Veterans' Day. The parade featured Pearl Harbor survivors and over 100 other Arizona Veterans. The video will be shown to the community during Anthem Days and will be sold to parade participants and community members.
The BCHS Athletic Department is hosting a co-ed softball game on Monday, April 13 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. This is going to be a fun fundraiser to support the BCHS Athletic Department. There will be 20 BCHS staff playing against 20 BCHS students in a one hour game on the JV softball field located at 40404 N. Gavilan Peak Pkwy, Anthem, 85086. The community is welcomed to attend.
Sandra Day O�Connor
Junior Kaitlin DuToit has been selected as a finalist in the fourth annual �Lucerne, The Art of the Dairy Art Contest - Taste of Moo-sic.� Her entry has been selected as one of 30 from around the country. All finalists have applied their design on a life-sized cow sculpture that will compete for the grand prize of $20,000 for their school, plus $5,000 each for the student and teacher.
DuToit�s life �sized cow will be displayed at the local Safeway located at 39th Avenue and Happy Valley from April 20-27. The winner will be announced next month. This contest promotes cross-curriculum, through both art and music in an effort to spark young artists' creativity and to challenge their ability to apply their musical knowledge to a unique project.
Senior Nikhita Godiwala was named to the All Region Mock Trial team. She is one of only six students in the region to be honored. Godiwala was selected by the judges at the regional mock trial competition this month based on her outstanding performance as an attorney and witness. Senior Hasina Ismail was awarded Honorable Mention in the �Being an American� essay contest administered by the Bill of Rights Institute. Ismail was one of 63 students nation-wide awarded the Honorable Mention and a cash prize of $250. High school students nationwide were invited to participate in the 2008-2009 "Being an American� essay contest, which explores the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. In Ismail�s essay she compared the rights she has an American girl with the few rights she would have had if her family remained in Afghanistan. Administered by the Bill of Rights Institute, a non-profit educational organization in the Washington, D.C. area, the contest offered cash prizes totaling more than $189,000 to both students and their teachers. The Teen Court Program will host its first meeting on Monday, April 6 at 2:45 pm at Sandra Day O�Connor High School located at 25250 N. 35th Ave., Phoenix, 85083. The Teen Court Program is co-sponsored by the Maricopa County Courts and YMCA. The Teen Court deals with cases involving adolescents who have been cited for reasons which include motor vehicle
