CAMPUS GOAL

By May of 2018 we will decrease the total percentage of D/F’s in literacy and math school wide by 25% (from May of 2017 percentages) as evidenced by a score of four or better on the end of course level of achievement marks.

 

Fun Fact:  DVUSD scored higher on the AZMerit tests than the state average and charter schools.

WINTER DANCE CONCERT

December 7th and 8th

7:00 pm in the BGHS Performing Arts Center

Tickets are $7 pre-sale in the Bookstore, during both lunch periods, and $8 at the door.

Teachers can purchase a ticket for $5 (remember your ID)

LATE FINAL EXAM REQUESTS 

Attention Students: Please pick up a late final exam request form from the Curriculum office if you are going to be absent on December 21st or 22nd and will be missing one or more of your Final Exams. Students must have the form completed and turned back in to the Curriculum office no later than December 20th.  Students will need to make arrangements with their teachers make up their final exams by the January 19th deadline.  Early final exams will not be administered.

 

FROM ATHLETICS

Calling all boys volleyball players. If you are interested in playing volleyball next season there will be a mandatory student meeting Wednesday the 13th at 2:30pm in room 410.

 

Do you have a younger brother, sister, cousin or friend who would like to cheer? Spiritline is having a Kid’s Camp and they will be able to perform at the basketball game on Saturday January 13th. Contact Coach Wilson in the counseling office or anyone from the Spiritline team for more information.

Spiritline is hosting a Goodwill Donation Drive this week. Parents, community members, students and staff can drop off their donations in the front office  from December 4th through December 8th and can drop off large items Saturday December 9th. Support Spiritline and donate your unwanted items!

Bulldog Baseball is holding winter camps for students who want to learn to play baseball the Bulldog way. Choose from three different camps focusing on different aspects of the game, OR participate in all three at a discounted price. Camps will start November 27th and run through December 15th at 3:45 PM. If you are interested, you can pick up a registration form or contact Coach McWhortor in the PRIDE office.

 

Hype Squad shirts are now available in the bookstore for $10 before school, after school or during your lunch.  Wear your Hype Squad shirt and bring your school ID to any home game and your entry fee will be only $1.  We now have large sized shirts available!

 

GRADUATION

Seniors – last chance to order your Cap & Gown on campus is coming soon!  Orders will be taken during lunch on Thursday, December 14th in the Cafeteria.

Attention Students:  We have many lunch accounts that have negative balances.  Please clear up your negative balance ASAP in order to continue using your lunch account. 

 

FROM COUNSELING

BGHS offers peer tutoring for all subjects in the media center after school from 2:17-3:15. Tutoring days will vary week by week so check the printed calendar on the library doors to see what days tutoring is offered.

 

Seniors.. do you (and your parents) need help filling out your application for financial aid (FAFSA)? Pick up a College Goal AZ flyer from your social studies teacher or from the counseling office to learn how and where you can attend a free FAFSA completion workshop.

Earn TRIPLE POINTS for all receipts from The Shops at Norterra that are submitted by January 15th!  Please bring your receipts to the PRIDE Office or submit online at shopandlog.wufoo.com/forms/the-shops-at-norterraEarn bonus points when you attend the Cruisin’ with Santa Holiday Car Show on December 8th and sign in at the red customer service tent.

EARN & LEARN PROGRAM

When you visit The Shops at Norterra this holiday season, you can help raise money for our school at the same time!  For every dollar you spend shopping, dining, for services, or when you see a movie we earn 30 POINTS!  Receipts MUST be submitted online at https://shopandlog.wufoo.com/forms/the-shops-at-norterra/ OR you can bring them to the PRIDE Office to be submitted and returned to you.  You can also email a copy to Judith.Lukaszewski@dvusd.org to be submitted for you.

 

You don’t even have to spend any money to help earn points.  Simply like The Shops at Norterra on Facebook and follow them on Instagram.  We earn an extra 500 POINTS when you comment on any post with our school name. 

 

You can help BGHS earn $$ for our students! If you shop, dine, see a movie, or use any of the services at The Shops at Norterra, please remember to submit your receipts online at www.shopandlog.com/norterra  or bring them to the PRIDE Office to be submitted and returned to you.   We earn TRIPLE POINTS for all receipts dated November 15th through December 31st, so remember to submit your receipts BY JANYUARY 15TH! There are plenty of fundraising opportunities at Norterra, as well. Please stop by the PRIDE Office for details!

 

Students, Staff, Families, and Community – You can help BGHS up to $2500 from The Shops at Norterra through the Earn & Learn Program!

It’s easy!  Every time you shop, dine, enjoy services or see a movie at The Shops at Norterra, between now and March 31st, simply submit your receipts online at www.shopandlog.com/norterra.  Our school earns TEN POINTS for every dollar spent.  There are many opportunities for Bonus points too!  The more points we earn the higher our cash grant will be!

Be sure to tell your family, friends, neighbors, etc. – ANYONE can help earn points for our school!

Now through the end of October we can earn 20 POINTS on all receipts submitted.  Take a look at the flyer for details!  You are welcome to drop off receipts in the PRIDE Office to be submitted and then returned to you. 

Earn 500 POINTS on Social Media:  Like the The Shops at Norterra on Facebook and follow on Instagram to earn an extra 500 points when you comment with our school name – Barry Goldwater HS on and Earn & Learn post.  Limit 500 points on Facebook and 500 points on Instagram per person.

STUDENT INFORMATION

Dress Code:   Any attire that detracts from the learning environment is not acceptable.  Shirts and tops may not expose bare midriffs, bare shoulders, nor be deeply cut in the front, back or under the arms.  Undergarments should not be exposed.  Clothing must cover the entire buttocks.  Clothing may not include defamatory writing obscene language or include symbols of drugs, sex, or alcohol.  You can see the complete dress code policy in the Student’s Rights and Responsibilities Handbook on our website.  Please dress for success while at school!

 

Parking Permits:  The cost for student parking on campus for the 2017-2018 school year is $100. Students who wish to park on campus may purchase a parking permit in the bookstore during their lunch period or before or after school. Beginning August 14, 2017 students who have not purchased a permit will not be allowed to park their vehicle on the BGHS campus.

 

FROM THE CAFETERIA:  Students must reapply for the free/reduced meal program every school year. If your application has not been received and approved by September 19th, you will go to full pay status. You will be responsible for your meal payments. Submit paper applications to the cafeteria or on line applications at ezmealapp.com.  Please allow 10 days for processing.

 

Senior students, please remember to reapply for your Free and Reduced lunch program for the 2017/2018 school year even if you have a shortened schedule. Qualifying for the Free and Reduced lunch program may also help you with testing fees and the athletic waiver.  

 

DELIVERIES:  The front desk will not accept personal items such as IPads, cell phones, money or lunches. There are also no deliveries allowed for students such as balloons, flowers, food or gifts of any kind.

 

Parking

Students, please be a good neighbor and do not park in the Medical Plaza or neighboring business parking lots.  Your car will be towed!  You can purchase a pass for the student parking lot in the Bookstore.
