CAMPUS GOAL

By May of 2018 we will decrease the total percentage of D/F’s in literacy and math school wide by 25% (from May of 2017 percentages) as evidenced by a score of four or better on the end of course level of achievement marks.

 

Fun Fact:  DVUSD scored higher on the AZMerit tests than the state average and charter schools.

FALL PLAY

Tickets are on sale now for the Fall Play, Get Smart!  Tickets are $7 for pre-purchased tickets in the Bookstore or online.  Tickets are $8 at the door.  Don’t miss this great production – get your tickets now!

 

FROM ATHLETICS

Athletic Clearance Packets need to be completed and turned in to the Athletic Office by October 27th for students planning to tryout for a Fall Sport.  Fall Tryouts begin on October 30th.  Please stop by the Athletic Office for details.

Attention any boys interested in playing baseball this year, there will be a meeting in Room 102 after school on Thursday.  Please see Coach McWhortor for details.

Attention all boys soccer players. There will be no training this week. Please get your physicals in before tryouts

Girls soccer tryouts are quickly approaching. If you are planning to try out this year, you will need to turn in a completed athletic packet by October 26th. Tryouts will begin on October 30th. See Coach Rodriguez in the counseling office or Coach Arnold in Room 117 for more information.

 

Hype Squad shirts are now available in the bookstore for $10 before school, after school or during your lunch.  Wear your Hype Squad shirt and bring your school ID to any home game and your entry fee will be only $1.  We now have large sized shirts available!

 

GRADUATION

Attention Seniors:   Please remember to make arrangements with Grads Photography to have your FREE Senior Yearbook Photo taken by the November 10th Deadline.  Check the Goldwater Website for a link to schedule your appointment or contact Grads Photography directly.

Attention Students:  We have many lunch accounts that have negative balances.  Please clear up your negative balance ASAP in order to continue using your lunch account. 

 

FROM COUNSELING

BGHS offers peer tutoring for all subjects in the media center after school from 2:17-3:15. Tutoring days will vary week by week so check the printed calendar on the library doors to see what days tutoring is offered.

 

Attention Juniors and Seniors, The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational and Battery) exam is being offered on campus next Wednesday, October 18th. Please sign up using the QR Code provided by your social studies teacher if you would like the opportunity to take this FREE aptitude test offered by the armed services to identify your career interests. Students may also sign up in the counseling office or by accessing the counseling website.

 

University of Arizona College of Engineering will be hosting two Engineering Preview Night at the UA Phoenix Biomedical Campus featuring a college overview, breakout sessions and a question and answer session with one of their deans. Fall 2017 Phoenix Preview Nights are scheduled for October 19 and November 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. Please email Leslie Grignon at lgrignon@email.arizona.edu, to RSVP or for any questions.

 

Phoenix Chinese Week will be offering three $750 scholarships to seniors who meet their criteria. The deadline to apply is January 29, 2018. See your counselor for more questions or for an application.

 

Information about the prestigious Flinn Scholarship is now available at www.flinnscholars.org. The Flinn Scholarship is only applicable to the 3 in-state public universities. The deadline to submit applications is Monday, October 23rd while the deadline to submit teacher and counselor recommendations is Friday, October 20th. See your counselor for more information.

 

The Deer Valley Education Foundation is partnering with the BHHS Legacy Foundation to provide scholarships for students interested in pursuing a career in the Health Care field. Students must be a junior or senior in DVUSD. The scholarship covers part or all of the costs for dual enrollment classes, AP or IB exam fees, or certain CTE or West-Mec programs. See your counselor for an application or for more information.

Students, Staff, Families, and Community – You can help BGHS up to $2500 from The Shops at Norterra through the Earn & Learn Program!

It’s easy!  Every time you shop, dine, enjoy services or see a movie at The Shops at Norterra, between now and March 31st, simply submit your receipts online at www.shopandlog.com/norterra.  Our school earns TEN POINTS for every dollar spent.  There are many opportunities for Bonus points too!  The more points we earn the higher our cash grant will be!

Be sure to tell your family, friends, neighbors, etc. – ANYONE can help earn points for our school!

Now through the end of October we can earn 20 POINTS on all receipts submitted.  Take a look at the flyer for details!  You are welcome to drop off receipts in the PRIDE Office to be submitted and then returned to you. 

Earn 500 POINTS FOR BGHS by attending the Halloween Spooktacular and Car Show on October 20th 6 – 8 pm.  Bring a flyer to the event with your name and BARRY GOLDWATER HS or sign in at the RED EVENT TE NT – BGHS earns 500 points for each attendee! 

Earn 500 POINTS on Social Media:  Like the The Shops at Norterra on Facebook and follow on Instagram to earn an extra 500 points when you comment with our school name – Barry Goldwater HS on and Earn & Learn post.  Limit 500 points on Facebook and 500 points on Instagram per person.

STUDENT INFORMATION

Dress Code:   Any attire that detracts from the learning environment is not acceptable.  Shirts and tops may not expose bare midriffs, bare shoulders, nor be deeply cut in the front, back or under the arms.  Undergarments should not be exposed.  Clothing must cover the entire buttocks.  Clothing may not include defamatory writing obscene language or include symbols of drugs, sex, or alcohol.  You can see the complete dress code policy in the Student’s Rights and Responsibilities Handbook on our website.  Please dress for success while at school!

 

Parking Permits:  The cost for student parking on campus for the 2017-2018 school year is $100. Students who wish to park on campus may purchase a parking permit in the bookstore during their lunch period or before or after school. Beginning August 14, 2017 students who have not purchased a permit will not be allowed to park their vehicle on the BGHS campus.

 

FROM THE CAFETERIA:  Students must reapply for the free/reduced meal program every school year. If your application has not been received and approved by September 19th, you will go to full pay status. You will be responsible for your meal payments. Submit paper applications to the cafeteria or on line applications at ezmealapp.com.  Please allow 10 days for processing.

 

Senior students, please remember to reapply for your Free and Reduced lunch program for the 2017/2018 school year even if you have a shortened schedule. Qualifying for the Free and Reduced lunch program may also help you with testing fees and the athletic waiver.   

 

DELIVERIES:  The front desk will not accept personal items such as IPads, cell phones, money or lunches. There are also no deliveries allowed for students such as balloons, flowers, food or gifts of any kind.

 

Parking

Students, please be a good neighbor and do not park in the Medical Plaza or neighboring business parking lots.  Your car will be towed!  You can purchase a pass for the student parking lot in the Bookstore.
