Coca-Cola Scholars Program: Seniors, Class of 2022, Coca-cola Scholars Program application is now OPEN! Apply before October 31st, 2021


 

United States Merchant Marine Academy: I want to inform you about a virtual admissions Q&A session for students interested in attending the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), one of the five federal service academies that include West Point, Annapolis, Air Force, and Coast Guard academies. Date: August 31, 2021 Time: 6 p.m. ET Who: All interested students and guidance counselors What: Virtual question and answer session with some of our outstanding Midshipmen. This will be the perfect opportunity to learn about the admissions process and what it’s really like to attend USMMA. Interested in Grand Canyon University: SENIORS! Are you interested in Grand Canyon University? Want to learn more? Have coffee with our admissions representative KMag at Amped Coffee here in Anthem. During your meeting, she will let you know where you stand with admission, scholarship, and finances. She will be at Amped on August 26th, September 9th, and September 16th from 12-2. Interact Meeting: First Interact Meeting on Tuesday, August 31st in room 304, come to have some pizza and learn about ways to volunteer in our community, Service Above Self!

All things EQ (week of 8/25-8/31) The motto for the week is: How are you portraying yourself right now? As we go about our day, we are constantly communicating with ourselves and the people around us. We may not purposely be trying to communicate, but our non-verbal communication or our body language is “speaking” for us. “You cannot not communicate.” -Paul Watzlawick Being aware that we are always communicating is helpful because the way we portray ourselves gives us insights into ourselves and others. For example, if you don’t understand why someone is responding to you in a certain way, try to notice your own body language and how you may be portraying yourself to them. Sometimes people react more to our body language than to our actual words. “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” -Maya Angelou Usually, our body language follows our mood. For example, when we are happy, we smile. What we may not notice is that sometimes it is our mood that follows our body language. If we sit or act as if we are tired or bored, we may actually begin to feel tired and bored. Our body language not only communicates to others, but it can also affect our own feelings and moods. Fortunately, we are entirely in control of our body language, which significantly influences our moods and experiences. Ideally, we want the way we portray ourselves to reflect the person we want to be and help create the experiences we want to have. University General Information Sessions: Juniors and Seniors, Join the University of Notre Dame, Emory University, Johns Hopkins University, and Washington University in St. Louis for one of two General Information Sessions offered via Zoom. The first session is this Sunday from 4-5 pm EDT. The second session is on Thursday, September 2, from 7-8 pm EDT. You can RSVP on the counseling web page under College Visits.


 

NHSDA: Students, are you interested in joining Dance Club? If so, come to our next meeting on September 2nd, 2:15-3:15 pm in the dance studio (room 130). All levels are welcome and no prior training is required. Our first meeting will be a jazz-funk combination and meetings are tentatively planned for every other Thursday. We will have a new style each week. Come dance with us!


 

Astrology Club: If you are interested in Astrology, Astrology Club is meeting after school in room 50 on September 1st.
