The Joaquin Bustoz Math-Science Honors Program (JBMSHP): The Joaquin Bustoz Math-Science Honors Program (JBMSHP) at Arizona State University is now accepting applications for the 2021 summer program (6/13 - 7/23). The JBMSHP is intended for mature and motivated students who are interested in academic careers requiring mathematics, science, or engineering-based coursework and who are typically underrepresented in those fields of study. Students will have an opportunity to earn college credit. The program is FREE, and the location will be online. For more information and application, click on this link: https://jbmshp.asu.edu/. ASVAB-CEP (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery-Career Exploration Program ASVAB-CEP Testing: Are you a Senior or Junior? Are you interested in identifying your career strengths and receiving an inventory assessment and feedback? Are you interested in the possibility of joining the military after high school? If you said “YES” to one of the above questions, consider taking the ASVAB-CEP (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery-Career Exploration Program) on Wednesday, Feb. 10th from 7:30 am-noon in the main auditorium. Fort Lewis College, Virtual High School Visit: Fort Lewis College - located in the beautiful mountain town of Durango, Colorado - will be hosting a Virtual High School Visit on Wednesday, February 3rd at 1:00 PM. We will talk about the many opportunities that a small institution has to offer, and how to attend an Out-of-State college at an affordable price. Come learn about our Native American Tuition Waiver, our amazing programs, and our free ski season pass for first-year students. Attendees will be given a fee waiver code for their application! ASU Cesar E. Chavez Leadership Institute: The Arizona State University Cesar E. Chavez Leadership Institute is a high-energy leadership program for sophomores and juniors. Selected students participate in a one week program (July 12 - 16) at ASU in workshops and activities exploring higher education, leadership development, and community engagement. United States Naval Academy (USNA): United States Naval Academy (USNA) is offering a Summer Seminar for 9th -11th graders to experience life at the Academy and kick-start your application journey for an appointment to the Academy. Build Your Future Arizona: Here is an event put on by Build Your Future Arizona, their mission is to help raise awareness about career opportunities in construction. The event is called Construct Your Path. It is open to all high school students and recent grads, taking place virtually on 2/25. West-MEC: Hello! West-MEC is excited to announce a new one-year program starting next year, 2021-2022, at the Northwest Campus: NURSING SERVICES! This one year program, open for current juniors and seniors* to apply, will provide students the chance to be a Licensed Nursing Assistant with a pathway to so many more opportunities. This will be a competitive program overseen by the State Board of Nursing. The information sheet is attached, but I have some of the highlights listed below. There will be program requirements to get in and some additional requirements once in the program. Students accepted will be working in a clinical setting during the year. The highlight of (not all) Requirements for admission:•2 credits of English with a C or better •1 credit of Algebra II with a C or better (Transcript due by June 15th) •2 credits of lab science with a C or better: one MUST be Biology •Immunizations-no exemptions Once in the program:•Drug Screening •Criminal Background check •Health Screening We are sending emails to all students who have an application for the 1-year Medical Assisting Program and our EMT program to let them know of this new opportunity. Please use the attached graphics for your own advertisement of this new program. Since the announcement is late in the application timeline, we will extend Nursing Services applications until Tuesday, February 16th to be included in allocations. All Nursing Services applications are due to the West-MEC Corporate Office no later than the close of the day, 4 pm. Applications received after this date will be filled by West-MEC.
