All things EQ (week of 1/21-1/27): The motto for this week: Work does not diminish your life; work brings meaning to your life. It's easy to value our free time over our time spent working. However, the time we spend working, creating, and producing brings value to our lives and others. Work is how we help ourselves and the people around us. When we work on our homework, we are contributing to our life. Even if we don't like the subject or value the particular assignment. We are still learning perseverance, self-management, discipline, and accountability. People tend to think those skills will automatically be ours to use when we care more about what we do. However, skills are not things we wish for. They must be practiced, put into use, and developed over time. It is discipline, more than ability, that separates those who want something from those who achieve it. Being disciplined and getting your work done is a choice that is always available to you, and personal pride, gratification, and satisfaction are the daily rewards of making that choice. Enjoy and understand the value of all the parts of your life. Why limit fun and joy to free time? Work can be rewarding too. "I don't think of work as work and play as play. It's all living." -Richard Branson After all, too much time for relaxation turns what would be self-care into self-neglect. Create balance. Be good to yourself, Danna Evans All Things E.Q.
