Spritline: Congratulations to our BCHS Spiritline who has been working hard to socially distance while training. We know it is so hard right now because the world is so different, but it's amazing to see how our students can accomplish so much though innovation, flexibility, and creativity.
EQ Motto of the Week: How are you portraying yourself right now? This week, we focused on being aware of our thoughts. Next week, we will focus on being aware of our non-verbal communication. Our body language, much like our thoughts, can affect the way we feel in any given moment. Unlike our thoughts, however, body language communicates something about ourselves to others as well. "What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson. Academically, it's important to understand that when we sit as if we are bored, or tired in school, we may begin to feel bored or tired, even if we are not bored yet because our body sends messages to our brain. Sitting up in class and being curious, not only helps students perform better in school but enjoy it more as well. Socially, understanding body-language is helpful because it allows us to understand other people's social cues and pay attention to our own. If our body language is friendly and inclusive, people will feel welcomed and included around us. "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."-Maya Angelou Fortunately, we are entirely in control of our body language, which has a significant influence on our mood and experiences. When we are aware of the non-verbal messages we send to ourselves and others, we become more effective communicators. This week is simply about building that awareness. When I pay attention to my body language, I tend to smile more often, nod more often, and stand straighter. A good question to ask ourselves, "Is my body-language helping me right now?"
