Boulder Creek High School Bulletin for Friday, January 17, 2020

Dorrance Scholarship Seniors, it's not too late to apply for the Dorrance Scholarship. This scholarship program provides academic and financial support to first-generation college students planning to attend one of the 3 in-state universities. The deadline to apply is February 7, 2020, but your FAFSA must be submitted by January 15th. See your counselor for more information.


 

World Language Club: ¡hola, bonjour, nihao. World language club is going to have Chinese New Year-themed for next meeting. Please join us at 2:15 on Tuesday, January 21 at room 331. Everyone is welcome.


 

Kindness calendar: A month of showing what it means to be a Jag! Jan 10 ~ Make a list of things you're grateful for. Jan 13 ~ Tell a parent how much you love them. Jan 14 ~ Make a new friend waiting in line. Jan 15 ~ Be a shoulder to lean on for someone you care about. Jan 16 ~ Pay for the person behind you. Jan 17 ~ Give as many genuine compliments as you can. Jan 20 ~ Help out your community & volunteer somewhere. Jan 21 ~ Donate books or clothes to a shelter. Jan 22 ~ Choose to give the gift of forgiveness. Jan 23 ~ Spend time outside in nature. Jan 24 ~ Reconnect with a family member or friend. Jan 27 ~ Write or send a thank you note to someone. Jan 28 ~ Turn off distractions and spend quality time with someone. Jan 29 ~ Clean up after your lunch table. Jan 30 ~ Tell a teacher how much you appreciate them. Jan 31 ~ Do something kind for yourself.


 

Senior Panoramic Picture and Cap & Gown Pictures: Can you add Seniors Panoramic picture on January 29th during FIRST PERIOD in the main gym. Cap and Gown pictures (optional) in the Auditorium Lobby (during Lunches). Men wear or bring a shirt and tie. Ladies wear something V-neck.

Interested in Playing a Sport in College? Athletes and Parents: If you are interested in playing a sport in college listen up! Experts in college recruiting are coming to BCHS to talk about what it takes to play at the next level. Come to the auditorium on January 29th at 6 pm to learn the secrets of getting a college scholarship. It's all about who you know. If you have any questions talk to Mr. Larsen in the office.


 

Boys Volleyball Open Gym & Try-out information: Boys Volleyball: The Boys Volleyball team will be hosting open gyms in the auxiliary gym, from 2:30-4:30 pm. There are 4 in January, on the 14th, 16th, 21st, 28th, and the 31st. In February there are 2, on the 4th & 7th. The open gyms are free to everyone, regardless of playing experience. Tryouts will be held in the auxiliary gym from February 10th-14th, from 2:30-5:00 pm. Make sure to have your physical packets turned in to the office. If you have any questions about the upcoming season, please reach out to Taylor Stallman.


 

Chinese New Year at BC: Celebration Chinese New Year at BC The year of the RAT will start on January 25, 2020. The Fine Art department will perform an exotic lion dance, chasing away the evil spirits and bringing in good spirits during 4th and 5th lunch in the echo circle on Friday, January 24, 2020. Mandarin class students will demonstrate the language and culture of the Chinese New Year by doing paper cutting, calligraphy, playing games, and listening to Chinese music, etc. Come join us at the Echo Circle during both lunches on Friday, January 24, 2020. We wish you a prosperous year of the RAT! Gong Xi Fa Cai!!!


 

Football: Any students interested in playing football for Boulder Creek next season, there will be a short meeting on Tuesday, January 21st, at 2:20 pm in rm 824. This will be an informative meeting that covers the off-season, spring football, summer workouts and the upcoming season. If you can not make the meeting, please sign up with Coach Casarella in the 800 building.


 

ASVAB Testing: ASVAB Testing: Interested in the possibility of joining the military after high school? Or are you simply interested in a career inventory assessment and feedback? If you are a junior or senior, consider taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) on Tuesday, Feb. 11th from 7:30 am – 11:30 am. Please sign up for the ASVAB Test in the counseling office by 2/7.


 

Counseling News: Counseling News: Counseling is offering the following FLEX time sessions this month. On 1-23, Glendale Community College will be here to meet with current juniors and seniors interested in attending their school. On 1-30, counseling will offer a college workshop to all freshmen interested in attending a 2 or four-year college. Also on the 30th, the Army will be holding an ASVAB test prep session for juniors and seniors who are taking the test. Your counselors also want you to know that the deadline to turn in all West Mec and DVUSD CTE applications is Thursday, January 23rd.
