All Things EQ for week of 11/12-11/15: Are the walls of your ego impenetrable to joy? Pride is a common block to happiness for many students. We see it often in class as the classic, "Too cool for school." Students may feel like they are too old, too cool, too proud to hang out with people that would make them happy or do something that they would enjoy. If their pride prevents them from doing something they would enjoy doing, then what is the real value of that pride? This is the question we would like students to ponder this week because things like pride and social status don’t help our students live better and happier lives, all they do is make it appear as if they do and the image can be exhausting to maintain. The truth is that our students, like all of us are vulnerable and flawed and no amount of ego or pride will be able to change that. When we forget our pride, we remember ourselves, when we sacrifice ego, we gain joy.
